We know that Steam is offering MW2 for the weekend for free, except I cant seem to get it to install. I have it downloaded, but when I running it, all I get is "mw2 could not load localization.txt"

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
i have the same problem. I deleted it and now its taking hours to redownload.
i was actually thinking of buying it for pc, but after reading online, no one has a fix, so im not buying it.
thanks steam, you saved me $60 ( i hope that was their goal, because if they set out to make money, they definitely failed) -
I deleted it, and now re-downloading at 1.2 mb/s
edit, and now down to 245, wait, going down 175kb/s -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I'm also downloading it at around 1.2 mb/s, but its been downloading for a couple hours. before it didn't take more than 1 hour.
but the problem i heard is that the game is 11GB (including single player) and the game that i downloaded was less than 4 GB, so i don't know for sure, but it might be downloading the full game now (i hope)
but there should be no reason it shouldn't work when im downloading it straight from steam -
^yeah I noticed that also, my game was just under 4gb, but all my friends said it was like 12gb's
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I think its because we are only getting the multiplayer, but still I think it would be more than 4GB
-
What for free!!!?? huh

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
OKAY i redownloaded it this time and it actually works, and i was right
This time it downloaded 11GB, so the game works, which is why it took so long to download.
I plan on playing it when i get home tonight. -
Wow,I have never seem a game that was not free2play free on steam
Maybe there was.
MW2 is a triple failure. -
It was downloading at 300kb/s for me yesterday. Had to redownload the whole chunk though and it's downloading at 12.2kb/s now. I give up.

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
Here's what i did to get it to work (sorta luck but it works now)
I downloaded steam, and clicked to download cod mw2 free weekend. It took less than an hour to download. When i checked to folder, it was less than 4GB, so i right clicked on the game in steam and clicked delete all local content.
I then clicked the game again to redownload it. It was going around 1 mb/s, but it still took almost 4 hours to download. I left it to download it overnight, and this morning I checked the game folder again. It now says 11 GB, which is why it wasn't working before, and why it took so long to download the second time.
Anyways it works so im going to play it later. -

tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I bought the game for 360, So i didn't want to buy it for pc as well (I did that with cod4)
So I decided to download it now since its free to see how my laptop can handle it. -
Well, I have it installed and it worked this morning, now when I play it, when I get to the first menu, it freezes at start up. Any suggestions?
-
just to say again, (i saw someone else post it), but wither exit steam, then wehn it start back it should update, or deleate local and reinstall and it should work.

am i being an idiot or is there no way to make your own public lobby?
i want to play a friend then have the rest as publics but i can't seem to do it -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
You cannot make a lobby i believe, its the same on the 360 version. It stops people from getting a bunch of people into a game and boosting, so making all lobbies public stops this (or just makes it harder to boost)
You can only make a private lobby, which doesn't give you xp, therefore people can't boost, but you have to invite the people you want to play with, so the public can't join unless you invite them. -
but i always end up in a full lobby. its imposs to play with my mate.
