Using the Alienware in my signiture for some reason I'm getting terrible FPS. Usually between 11-20. I have everything on ultra except for shadows which I have on good. I would think that this comp should be able to handle this no problem. Anyone have any suggestions.

Do you have the IGP enabled maybe?
-
I don't think so. I have everything on Starcraft II on Ultra and it isn't asking me to change my setting and seems to run smooth. Also don't have V-synch checked.
-
Also I am playing fullscreen.

huh.
weird.
Have you tried forcing DX11 mode? -
No would you be able to tell me how? Also what is the best software for tracking FPS?

WoW Cataclysm: How to Activate the DirectX-11-Mode - - PC Games Hardware
couple ways to do it.
sometimes the stuff in the launcher AND the config.w t f (seriously notebook review, seriously? no abbreviated swears that double as file extensions? oh well) file gets reset/reforced back to dx9 (or it did that to me for awhile until it finally stopped)
you can activate the console and just type set gxapi d3d11 or gxapi d3d11 too.
To turn the console on (debug console) add -console after -d3d11 (or before) on launcher.exe's shortcut.
to turn on the console hit ~ -
Thanks. Doesn't seem to have made a difference.

odd.
try reinstalling the drivers?
try restarting the computer?
make sure you somehow someway don't have my stupid dumb powerplay bug where powerplay is all "lol no" whenever you unplug and replug in the laptop or swap gpus (we're stuck on battery saver mode guuuys. Clocks are 300/300)
You fix that by just ticking powerplay off, hitting apply, then ticking it back on and hitting apply again.
though I mean, to even see if you have that problem you have to check on what the clocks are maxing out at with gpu-z.
I mean are you 100% positive you're on the ati gpu?
'cause..really..you should destroy WoW -
Besides being able to play other games is there another way to make sure I am on the discreate card?
-
Make sure AA isn't set to something insane like 16x. Don't set it higher than 8x (I do 2x and it's fine).
People forget that WoW at ultra settings can still be fairly taxing. -
Looks like it was powerplay. I did what you said and now things are running 120+. Thanks so much.

good to know the powerplay issue may be more of a amd screw up and not an envy14 screw up.
though..if you're on the hm55 (or the hm55 equivalent motherboard for sandy bridge..it may be all intel) -
Check your addons. I was having the same issue with a GTX 485m. Tried everything until I noticed that the Quest Helper Addon was stuck at 6% loading forever. It was having a huge impact on video performance. Once I removed it, i've been at a constant 60 FPS on Ultra Settings.

didn't think about add ons causing issues.
but anyway we figured out his problem already. Power Play was breaking/broken (and running like it was on battery saving mode) for him. -
Why do my FPS in WoW stink
