Why do we get the shaft on sports games?

    Someone tell me.

I thought this up as I was playing MLB2k9 on PC. God love them for trying, but the game just isn't that good.

And I started thinking, what was the last time I really, thoroughly enjoyed a sports game on PC. I cam up with MVP 05, but when it was modded to the 07 version. That was epic.

Madden got progressively worse. It finally died with 09, most likely because they didn't want to work to make it equivalent to the next gen. MVP series died in 05. And the NHL series is pretty much garbage.

Why? Is it piracy? Is it lack of interest? Gamepads are prevalent now. You can plug in an XBox controller if you want.

Why do we keep getting screwed on this one genre? In everything else, we get quality. Honestly, its almost making me wish I had a PS3.

Most likely it's the piracy issue - why sink a lot of time, money, and effort into something that's just going to get ripped off anyway?

By that same reckoning no new games would be written.

Perhaps it is simply not a genre that ports well onto the PC/laptop?

The MVP series ended because 2kSports bought the exclusive license to create MLB-branded games. This was revenge for EA Sports buying the exclusive license for NFL-branded games, ending the successful NFL2k series.

Not to mention most sports games are poor ports of console games anyway. The only sports games worth playing on the PC are probably Tiger Woods and Pro Evolution Soccer.

NHL series has been the same since 2005, I just play it on xbox nowadays. PES(winning eleven) series used to be PS2 ports, they are now xbox 360 ports.

Ask how those of us who enjoy tactical space sims or fleet sims feel about getting the shaft in games :(

Why... Because besides Madden and 2k Basketball no other sports games really make enough money for a company... Why put resources into a sports game with only decent revenue gains, when you could make a FPS or Adventure game and still make more money even if it was a crappy game :(, sad I know but that's how it is
