I saw a lot of people(in the pc gaming community) hating on Crysis 2(esp. here at NBR) and that led me to believe it was a mediocre game so i decided not to get it(atleast not at full price). I finally picked it up last week and realized it was awesome. I mean it may not be as good as Crysis 1 but definitely awesome. So were people hating on Crysis 2 and Crytek cause the game wasn't as good as part 1. Thats kinda unfair. Crysis 2 was definitely the most Single Player FPS fun i have had ever since...... well, ever since Crysis 1 I think. I hate the direction modern FPS games are headed in, focus only on multiplayer and screw the SP. While i love Multiplayer but there hast been a single decent FPS with a fun SP in a long long time. Crysis 2 was way superior to most of the FPS games in the past couple of years(again ever since Crysis 1 i believe).
It may not be as open ended as Crysis 1 and the graphics are not as ahead of its time like the first one but since when did that make a perfectly good game bad.
If there is anyone else here who hasnt really tried the game cause of the so many people ranting about it you should definitely go ahead and pick it up. It is an amazing game.

I personally like Crysis 2 campaign alot. I think the reason why alot of people dont like crysis 2 is the fact that its not as graphically intense or open ended in a sense as the first one.
offtopic: is that really Georgia Tech's download speed? -
I figured the same, i mean all PC game enthusiasts were expecting a game that would truly push their rigs to their limits and what they got instead was a slightly demanding game that wasn't as graphically ahead of its time as its predecessor but since when did all that stuff trump actual gameplay to determine whether a game is good.

I have finished all three, and Crysis 2 is the only one i have finished multipal times.

It is, like mentioned, because the graphics section did not tear apart any GPU like Crysis did, in addition to that the campaign is more streamlined. Another reason for the hate is that Crytek ported it on consoles (and with the aforementioned reasons) thus calling the game consolized. Nevertheless many reviews put Crysis 2 quite above the average of any other average shooter (BLOPS, BF2:BC) due to overall production value (and enjoyment) of the game.
Another problems is that for the first couple of months the multiplayer section was like going to a casino: it was totally random (no people, unable to connect, etc.). I'm not sure if they finally sorted the problem out, but it really damaged the (initial) reputation of the game.
Anyways, those are my two cents -
Personally, I bought Crysis 2 first. I really like urban settings more than jungle ones. I may look into getting Crysis and Crysis Warhead though.
I don't really see the reason to hate a game for not pushing a rig to its limits. Games are not all about graphics. It's more about story and preference. A game may have a good story for most but may not appeal to an individual. And even if the game has the most intensive graphics, it doesn't mean that it has the most appealing story. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
I asked myselft this question as well. Seems that alot of pc users like to be masochistic about their system, they want a game that destroys their hardware ripping apart gpus and CPUs otherwise they aren't happy.
Crysis 1 is a technical achievement which is still unrivaled, but the sandbox style+caribbean setting+hi tech and aliens doesn't quite mix together.
I've always blamed the b-movie plot, they start in a very realistic way just to finish with aliens nonsense.
Anyway that's partially a problem since Crysis 2 is more of the same.
Crysis 2 consolized-modern warfare like story is a good thing. It's engaging and fun, the graphics on pc have been brought above any other title out there.
If I had to choose I would say Crysis 2 has the edge on nearly everything compared to his predecessor.
The sandbox style of Crysis 1 for sure made the ability to be creative upon player discrection, but also it was a big problem within the whole game.
Crysis 2 it's a great game and jaw dropping none the less. -
Try the high texture pack and directx11 crank on max. See if its still not demanding. Its just that crytek push out the patch too late after everything has been said and done.
-
I liked it, but hated how it was ported over...
especially when I booted and it says "ADJUST TV BRIGHTNESS" yeah that really pissed me off...
But it was still an excellent game. -
Heavily tesselated water invisible to the player, anyone?
I had such high hopes for Crysis 2 but dident live up to the hype. -
I also liked crysis 2, it was not as good as the first but was still a good fps
the only issue I had was it was all over to soon.! -
i really liked crysis 2, but the down side i can only think of as a first impression when i played it, is that it became linear, the previous crysis games are free lance mapping, although crysis 2 is understandable since the genre was in new york city itself compared to the previous jungle safari.
-
I really liked the campaign, but I turn off tessellation since there is tessellated water everywhere and massive amounts of tessellation on flat surfaces.

It was great fun. What you are seeing is the PC-gamer complex, where if a game is multi-platform they will discard it as trash, consolized, etc.
And pray to god there are no low-res textures on any pebbles in the far-out corners of a map, because there will be hell to pay. -
I like the game however I just don't like the fact that you're alone most of the time (although this seems consistent through the Crysis games) and that it's not as visually appealing or open as the previous games.
I guess that's what happens when games have to work on consoles. -
i liked the game, just as i liked other crysis games. The graphics is not bad, its a good job, actually. I spent a whole weekend playing this, i remember ( yeah, i didn't finish it in 1 day, i'm not a pro, i just love gaming). Its a cool game, and i will recommend this to anyone who seeks a fun singleplayer FPS.

The ones that "Hate" crysis 2 are the ones that just trashed it because it was a console port, and it didnt push graphics too far. Sure the game might have been a disapointment but is still a solid stand alone.
Personally? It was an average game. A solid 7 at best. This is just now up to personal opinion, but the game made me feel more limited in terms of everything except Armor which is quite strong now.
The story? Tried to hard to sound deep but it was incredibly shallow and lame. Relied too much on deus ex machina of the suit to carry on the very few developments it had. Constantly forced to go from A to B to achieve nothing for half the game, and constantly spewing "Suits deep layers" made me want to punch them in the face. I enjoyed the much simpler story in Crysis one as it layed the foundation of the conflict, but in Crysis 2, I felt they developed it halfassed. Neither was espectacular, but I found the story in Crysis 2 worse.
Gameplay... Well, you certainly have a nanosuit, but running/moving slower, punching less hard and less constantly, jumping less far or high, and specially.... linearity turned me off. They basically made Crysis 2 a hollywood movie, and it is a hell of a lot more linear than Crysis. This linearity mostly brought forced set pieces and actions that definitely irked me, like opening a door only in a particular way shooting with a specific weapon instead of you know, a rocketlauncher, grenades etc etc. Worst offender? Unnecesary couple of quick time events. While the streamlined controls are not bad by themselves, being able to achieve less and feel more constrained by the world sucks
It holds your hands throughout the game's length, you are never really free at any moment. You are stopped by wooden doors, unbreakable huge crystal windows and limited paths.
That's not to say the whole game is bad, because the before mentioned complaints are just parts of the game, not the whole. There are genuinely good vertical parts and gunfights that are great fun.
The game in the end is okay. Personally it is not that good but decent. The gameplay, even if changed and limited, works good and unlike the first crysis, you actually feel like a tank this time around in terms of resistance. I found this game like a sidestep from crysis, not an upgrade nor downgrade.
It is definitely different in terms of gameplay than a traditional shooter, and it offers it share of thrills. It certainly rivals modern fps in production values and action movie feel.
But for me, that's not what I expected of crysis. Do I recommend it? Sure, every depending on tastes. -
I personally like epic setpiece moments and Crysis 2 delivers in that department. Ripping a machine gun off its mount and stomping down the street in armor mode mowing down stupid aliens to the strains of a Zimmer-esque orchestra swell is good fun.
The only thing I thought was ridiculous was the number of times you tried and failed to get out of the city. -
Bashing a game merely because it's a console port/it's cross platform is wrong. Bashing a game because it's a poorly exectuted console port with blatent oversights and broken promises is justifiable, you can't simply call it "whining".
-
I preferred Crysis 2 over the original Crysis as a game. As a tech demo, the original Crysis wins.

I prefer Crysis 1 & Warhead because you could save your game at any point and retrieve it later. Crysis 2 was terrible console port with checkpoint saves and I hate playing games like that. So I only played 40 minutes of it and lost interest.
-
Crysis 2 was fun and engaging, I would say I had more fun with the campaign than that of CoD. This one has ups and downs and you never feel power tripping even with all the gadgets.
-
One thing that I really, REALLY hate about Crysis 2 is its stupid 'Go here to get there' objective. I bet that is for console gamers. I don't like to be told how to get there, I like to find my own path to get there. Crysis have such a huge map so I could take multiple path to get there (stealth in the forest, gun blazing, riding a boat or riding a jeep etc.) The aforementioned autosave annoys me as well, I would like to quicksave anywhere I want.
Having said that it is a good game if I don't think of it as Crysis sequel but as a modern first person shooter, but when I do I just quit and went back to playing Crysis -
imo whoever played crysis 2 for the first time will have the shout of their life, for those who have played crysis and warhead first and played crysis 2 (aka the pc gamers) will be somehow expecting more of it.
-
Crysis 2 was pretty linear but still fun. I never got past the 2 hour mark in the original Crysis because I felt nothing compelling me to go on. I just got bored.
However I had a really great time with the Crysis 2 campaign and will definitely play through again at some stage. The multiplayer was a bit of a let down though... -
If I remember, Crysis 2 was DirectX 9 at launch, with 10/11 only added later. Obviously, that was a big disappointment after Crysis, which was DX10 at launch. I'm sure its reputation on PC was hurt noticeably by that omission, and even more by the associated console-portness. Crysis (the original) was a clear PC title, whereas Crysis 2 was clearly console-focused. That doesn't build goodwill.
And who asks whether your PC can play Crysis 2? Even today you occasionally hear the question, "But can it play Crysis?" With that reputation, you'd have expected Crysis 2 would have one-upped it.
Hate might be a bit strong, but embittered or disappointed might be accurate in a lot of cases.
Personally, I didn't buy either one, but I did download and play the Crysis demo. How couldn't I with a GeForce8 in 2007? -
I think the saying of "but can it play crysis" is pretty much stuck in PC gaming culture for good now.
How many other titles have there actually been that have been close to crysis in terms of how stupidly ahead of their time they were or how much they changed things? All I can possibly think of at the moment it HL2 when it introduced realistic facial expressions and every one fangasmed. -
The original Crysis release was a MASSIVE leap forward in PC graphics and set the new standard.
Crysis 2 looks just like every other game released this year.

I purchased and enjoyed the game, though not nearly as much as Crysis 1 and Warhead. -
I don't see where all the hate on Crysis 2 comes from (Note that Crysis 2 is the first crysis game I played).
I thought the SP experience was pretty neat, great soundtrack and awesome multiplayer. Then came the huge wave of cheater, and they nerfed (rightfully) stealth enhance and mobility enhance, which were the best enhancements for getting lots of kills. -
I just got the game the other day, and I'm really enjoying it. I picked it up after I finished COD-MW3. The directx 11, and high res packs make the game "pretty" (LOL)
. The only annoying thing is having to play to a save point. Where is the quick save-nature is calling.
I just can't get the game to register in the Origin (steam rip off) game list. -
Might need to contact support (being polite gets you a long way) and see what they can come up with. -
I'd give it a 7 too for SP, but the multiplayer is where it's @. It has fun game modes, and the only thing I hate about it is the annoying "check network connection" login error.
Why does everyone hate Crysis 2
