I had an idea about making this thread to get some feedback.
Why does no one use the " Recommend me a Game" sticky, but yet still reply to new threads being made about questions that have been posted there?
The reason why I care is because I was the one with the thread idea, and the one who made the thread. I thought it would be a good idea to not only cut down on new threads being made each day about the same questions, but to be easier to navigate.
But no one uses it, and it's quite frustrating, especially when you see comments like this:
I'm no moderator by any means, and I don't pretend to be one, but I am strongly considering asking crash or Charles (the ones who helped me with it and to make it a sticky) to take it down, and have things go back to the old way.
Please leave your feedback with a comment or just a poll vote.

Well I pretty much know about the games I want and I just look around there at times to see if there's any that picks up my interest. I do reply to people making new threads about game recommendations and usually, mention to them about the existance of that sticky. Those threads usually get merged with that sticky anyway.
I think the first thing that people have in mind is to just create a new topic asking since they think it's their "personal thread" rather than a public question. They want recommendations suited to their needs and not a thread with many games listed. That, or they just never bothered looking first
And your poll is unfair >:[ Where's the I know and I use it option -
One of my pet peeves with forums is when topics/threads get merged into a giant 100+ page mess. I'm a person who kinda likes seeing new threads and posts on forums, it makes me feel like the community is alive. Sure I get upset if the same topics get posted over and over when there are already active threads about the topic on the first page, but tossing a new question on page 143 of a 9037 post thread is the equivalent of tossing it in the garbage can. I'm not into dumpster diving so I don't visit those big threads.

I just find it frustrating that a new thread will get 20-30 reply's, but as soon as the thread gets moved, ALL discussions stops. And if a new reply gets made to the sticky, there is no discussion at all.
And I knew I forgot to add in another poll. -
*Hate on topics wasting board space*
*Make topic that wastes board space*
If you think this topic will change anything... -
And I never said I hate any topic wasting any space. No topic is wasting board space, but being able to manage the same topics in one place is easier.
Positive and negative feedback is appreciated, but trolling is not. -

I think it's up to the forum members to back track a few pages, and pick up a conversation if they choose to do so.
I think the trade off of doing that compared to flooding the forum with the same questions is probably the right decision. -
-
My personal experience with it is people overlooked my question and continued on with other conversation. I still havent had anyone answer which out of a list of fpses I gave should I try out next. Its easier to start a new thread have a bunch of people answer and then have it die slowly.
-
because no one ever reads stickied threads.

I think the information there is good, but at least link people to specific posts if it has already been covered ad nauseum before.
I hate super long threads. In another forum here, one of the mods said it wasn't too much to ask someone to read through a 200+ page thread to get the information they need. I completely disagree with this. If there are going to be super long threads, especially stickies, then the originator and/or mods need to make a detailed and easy to navigate FAQ at the beginning for items covered. But even that can become quickly overwhelming.
People just need to be nice and answer kindly or provide links, not just "GO HERE" and point to a 300 page thread. -
I know that I have tried to use the recommend me a game sticky, the problem, like others have said is that you hardly get any response because its suck a mess. There is no way to organized conversation. I was lucky and got a few responses. Though I think I would have done much better had I started a new topic.
-
Problem with that thread is that you only picked the most popular games. It's like you copy-pasted top 10 games from each genre from google and put it all in 1 thread. I'm not saying it's not usefull, but there are a lot of other good games that could be mentioned. I personally couldn't find anything usefull there when I searched a few days ago, cause I already heard of most of the titles. Maybe it needs more contribution. But completely removing it is not a good ideea, I'm sure there are many who found it helpfull. One thing it surely needs is a wipe, delete all the responses from time to time, and stop merging the threads.

The purpose of the thread is to ask about games you might have an interest in (for example, you like NASCAR racing games, and you ask about Need For Speed games). My list is just my recommendations only (it even says so in the thread itself), to give people an idea on the most popular games.
And the threads are merged because that is what a sticky is supposed to be. If a thread is made about a topic that is supposed to be in the sticky and they are not merged, then there is no point in having a sticky. -
To all those complaining about how difficult it is to find things in a sticky in general: instead of flipping through the pages, why not use the search thread feature? In my experience, I've been able to find stuff quite easily using it, ie: search for "racing," or "FPS," or "Bioshock," etc.

thats if the search function works.. it hasn't worked for me at all after the new website.. i have to go on google to search.. anyways , i'm ok with sticky but dn't bother going there to ask.. after all , a G73 should play everything till the next 2-3 years at least.
Why don't you use it?
