I've noticed this ever G-Sync has been released, in the NVCPL, the default settings only enables it for full screen but not Windowed apps although you can choose the 2nd option to have it enabled for both full screen and windowed apps.

Just wanted to know if there's any specific reason behind it or if any of you have encountered any adverse effects of having it enabled for windowed apps as well?

There might be some adverse effect, but I haven't found it yet. I use the Windowed screen settings as well since I hate tearing, and I currently have 3 G-Sync screens. 2 on my desktop, (35" Curved Acer Predator @ 144hz and 24" Acer Predator @ 75) running on a GTX 1070 Founders Edition since first shipment and no issues on the card or screens. My laptop is a GTX 1070 Acer 17" @ 75Hz and that doesn't exhibit any issues either. Maybe I'm burning out the panels prematurely but it'll be silky smooth the whole way there.

There were oddly a few games in earlier drivers that for some reason g-sync only worked in windowed-fullscreen and not exclusive fullscreen.. had to set the option to windowed+fullscreen. Not sure if that's still the case or not.
