Why is it going so slow?

I recently picked up Medal of Honor Pacific Assault, I'm not a big gamer but I like the series and it was on sale for $10. I installed it and started playing, but it goes too slow to be able to play properly. It feels like my character is trying to fight the japs on an island made of molasses.

My computer meets all the requirements, I've got 2.8 ghz processor, 700mb RAM(512 req.), I have a Radeon 9000/9100 video card (I think that's enough, the game requires Radeon 8500 or better), and I have adequate disk space. Is my computer slowing me down, if so, what's responsible? Is the game just crappy( I cant see anyone releasing a game that plays like this). I've played Counter Strike with just a little lag, I dont know why this would be so much worse. I wanted to get Resident Evil 4 for the PC, but if my computer cant handle it, I'll pass.

Well I'm pretty sure the problem lies in your graphics card, the 8500 is better than the 9100.

 

I think a Radeon 9000 graphics card would be stretching it..."minimum requirements" is the BARE MINIMUM required to run a game, which also includes the fact that a game wouldn't be running smoothly, either.

To be brutally frank, I think the slowness is caused by your hardware, not the software.

 

Yeah, that graphics card doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Make sure you're playing everything at lowest settings and lowest resolution, and if it's still slow, there's not much you can do about it.

 

Okay, I assumed they numbered them with increasing goodness. Oh well, it was only ten bucks. I'll have to be more careful about buying games in the future. I figured it probably wasnt the game, I thought the more likely culprit was the RAM, but I guess not.

 

mmhmm. its definately your GPU mate.

i could barely run it better then you have described on my radeon 9250, with 512mb system memory and 2.0GHz p4 CPU.

so yeh, upgrade to maybe a radeon 9550 if you wanna stay with ATi ( http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9550/index.html) which should run it pretty well, or if you wish to change to nvidia, try get a 6600 ( http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_6600.html) which should also run it pretty nice.

Just a quick guide… in general terms look at last 3 digits of the GPU model.

Etc. in your case (9) 000/100 vs (8) 500. As you can see 500 better than 000/100.

Anyway, this is only an approximate guide. When it comes to nVidia series like 8xxx, 9xxx etc. later series have extra features and technologies which may make the later series better than its corresponding older series card.

Etc. Radeon 9500 is far better to Radeon 8500

 

i wouldn't try re4 w/ your video card, even my nvidia 6200 has a hard time running it.

 

Thanks for the heads up, I think I'm giving up on any newish games for the next few years until I can afford to get a new computer. I didnt realize how out of date mine was until I looked at a few other game requirements.

 

Yeah, you should try using System Requirements Lab to roughly estimate if your setup will be able to run a game or not.
