On a thread my mujtaba I saw the same laptop with the GPU clocked a little below mine, but with higher scorec (3005)
The clock speeds were
510 Mhz : Core
445 Mhz : Memory
I got a score of 2817
The clock speeds:
517 Mhz : Core
460 Mhz : Memory
Why is this happenning?
-
CPU speed? RAM? Applications running in the background? Driver version?
-
Its the same as the one Mujtaba Specified

He may have different processes tuned (do you have an AV program running while running 3DMark?), maybe his memory runs on different timings, maybe it's a different resolution, lots of things can change the score. You're also well within range, a 200 point variation isn't a ton, so it's probably something small.
-
That was my laptop, and i ran it under my normal usage (about 50 running processes, including nod32, my antivirus). What drivers are you using? I was using the stock ones, which are the best gaming wise.
-
Get the lastest Forceware drivers,Also the Version of his Windows might have been different (for example On Vista thew scores might be lower or he might have Windows XP-64 which increases the score)
Also make sure there are no intensive applications busying the laptop.Kill any antivirus software. Also (if none of these worked), kill Vista
(note : I collected the data from the users and the reviews on the site, I own and ASUS W3J
Also note : The RAM on the list might be from another vendor as far as I know, ASUS takes their memories from several suppliers so yours might be different that his) -
The latest forceware drivers are still not as good as the ones that came stock, gaming wise. They add other stuff though, that you might want, like improved purevideo. But since they are beta-drivers, you might experience troubles with gaming or playing video (the colours went weird while playing video, but only then) or even an occasional BSOD. After experimenting and running version 97.44 for a month or two, I went back to 86.02.

Like Pitabred said, a 200 point difference is nothing. I have run 3d Mark 06 many times with varying results. For some reason my desktop scored 5789 with anti-virus on and 5534 with it off. Go figure. Then I ran it again with no changes and scored 5639. So a couple hundred points is not much. Its when you see a difference of thousand or so you should be worried.
-
Klaatu! Verata! N-- Necktie! No, that's not it... it's definitely an N word...
-
-
Pitabred is the first person to have actually noticed it. Well I am sure others have noticed but he is the first to say it aloud. -
-
What is the VRAM of your GPU? Some use DDR2 while others use GDDR3, even on otherwise identical cards.
Also, for AoD, I kept wondering why the guy didn't bring a submachine gun instead. -

Which drivers 97.44 do you recommend?
Nvidia original, laptop video2go or what??? -

The best thing is to try which one is better. But I suggest you play safe and use the drivers included with the Notebook.
Just as one of the posters said, the 200 difference is the error margin or 3D Mark.I personally experienced this too.I tested twice and the numbers were ~150 numbers away (I have a Mobility Radeon X1600).
So I don't think the driver change is even necessary.

Laptopvideo2go=nvidia original+modded inf so it can be installed on all laptops, meaning they aren't modded for performance. I would go with those if you necesseraly need new drivers, which i still believe that you don't. Go original, they are the best for now.
-
Ok so I think I will roll back to the original.
They'll be there in the Recovery Disk right?? -
yup, that's where they are-
-
I got a 4369 on 3DMark 06 on my setup below. Is this a reasonable score?
-
It's ~1000 scores off the mark.
See this : http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3132
Close all the intensive programs. -
I just did it again and got the same results.
I have a good amount of programs running, but my cpu usage is around 2%. Any reasons why it'd be so low? -
Bad drivers? wich version are you using?
-
Well if you want to get the best score possible, do what the reviewer above did. Give your baby a fresh reformat and install of Windows, disable all networking devices and anti-virus and use the same drivers. You should be on the money then. But if you know have have a good system, why go through all that unless you suspect there is something wrong with it.

You should be getting a higher score (those are good drivers). Have you changed any settings in 3dmark?
-
First, I'd just like to say thanks to everyone helping me out.
Alright, so I have the basic version of 3DMark06, where I can't change any details like AA or image quality, but would changing those settings help my score? -
Nope, if you add aa or up the resoltuion, you would only worsen it. And if you lower the resolution, you can't compare it with others.
BUT! 3Dmark06 is only a benchmark tool, and not always a very good indicator of performance. The point of 3dmark is not to get a good score (cause in it self, that doesn't mean much). Instead it's meant to help compare different gpu's. Sometimes 3dmark favors a manufacturer and ups the score while in actuallity it's just as good as the comparable competitor. Sometimes the drivers have tweaks that ups the 3dmark score, while not giving an actual performance boost.
What's important is how it performs in games, and yours should do excellent in all games available today at very high to max detail at native res. Don't worry about the score. If an actual game that's lagging behind in performance though, then worry and try to get help here. -
my a8js 3dmark score is in my signature
I havent seen anyone on nbr get a score like mine that didnt get their a8js when it was new
All the ones Ive seen since then the ram only goes to 460 where mine goes to 498 .a8js or g1
I didnt tune anything the score was what I got when my computer was new.
Why is my 3DMark 06 Score so low??
