Why is the CoD2 demo running poorly on my notebook?

I just installed the demo not to long ago and I was running it, but noticed that I was only getting 20-25 FPS according to fraps. I swore that the last time I ran this demo, which was 1.5 years ago, I had a much higher FPS. I tried switching resolutions and turning off AA, but the highest that it would go is ~30. V Sync is off too. At 1024 x 640 with AA and everything on normal (not high), I should be getting 70+ FPS easily, but I'm not getting anything even close to that... Is it the driver perhaps? I just dunno. I was playing Left 4 Dead last night perfectly fine..

    My specs:
    t7100 C2D
    4gig ram @ ddr2 667
    8600m GS 512mb gddr2 (with 1 gig turbocache)

I'm currently using the dox optimized 182.05 driver.

try to see if you have it in DX9 or DX7. You might have ran it in dx7 and now are running it in dx9, thus causing a drastic reduction in frames. If not try new drivers and check your tempetaures.

COD2 runs suprisingly slow on cards like the 8600.

COD4 runs quite a lot better on my system believe it or not, despite being newer by 2 years. Just better optimised I guess.

But, I KNOW for a fact that it ran better 1.5 years ago. Also, naticus, it shouldn't matter that it was in DX7 or DX9. This card shouldn't be topping 30 FPS on low resolutions and no AA.

edit: Wow.. putting it in DX7 mode did make it run better, so I guess you were right. I still don't get it though... Why is there such poor performance on DX9 when I can run games like Left 4 Dead fine?

The game is just not as well optomized as something like L4D, and also had some bugs that limited performance with single-card setups. Check the Cod2 tweakguide for info, I can't recall if they were ever fixed with a patch or not.

CoD2 should have no trouble with that; it can run way better than 30fps on my old desktop with an AMD single-core 2.2GHz and nVidia 6600GT.

That was probably about when DX9 was just stepping into the market, it would be the DX10 of today.
