Well i looked at ATI's website about the X1400. It says that it is 128-bit 4-channel DDR1/DDR2/GDDR3 memory interface compatable. Yet when i run GPU-Z, it says its running at 64-bit with DDR2 memory interface.

So why isnt it running 128-bit at GDDR3?

Because your cardmaker chose the DDR2 option?

Because DDR2 is cheaper than DDR3.

1)DDR3 is more expensive than DDR(2)
2)Routing a 64bit bus saves on PCB estate (so the PCB can be smaller if that is an issue or cheaper by saving 2 layers)
3)You don't need all that for that GPU. Would be like putting F1 tyres on a VW Beetle.

in other words the GPU is slow so putting faster memory would bottleneck it and would therefore waste more money and would cost more for no reason
