Hi, I have a question. When I'm idle, the multiplier is around 20~21x with a good 2600MHz and 132MHz Bus speed . But when i go play crysis, the multiplier goes down to 14~16x with only around 2000-2200 MHz. But, that's with CPUz. When I check with PC Wizard, my cores are ALWAYS above 2GHz, sometimes reaching 4GHz, giving 11GHz of power ( lolwut? ).
Thanks for any light on this case!
PS : One more thing, what drivers are the best : 10.11 or 10.12?

crysis is probably engaging 3-4 cores.
the clock speed on your processor is variable, as is the number of cores that are running. if all the cores are running, it can't maintain as high a clock speed as if some are shut off. in general, you will get the best performance out of a program that is designed to use all the cores at the slightly lower clock speed. it sounds like everything is working as intended.
there is a thermal / power window that the processor needs and maintains on its own. It can change clock speeds and engage cores as long as it stays within that thermal power range. That is what is going on. -
Thanks for the reply!
But why does CPUz say one thing, and PC wizard other? I mean, CPUz is telling me that my CPU is around 5-6 GHz, while PC wizard is telling me it is around 11GHz...
Oh and, what drivers are the best? 10.11 or 10.12? -
Your i7-720QM can go 1.6 with 4 cores, 2.5 with 2 cores, or 2.8 with 1 core.
That's all; if it's bumping down the multiplier it's probably switching between those 4 core schemes. -
Then why on earth do I get freakin' 11GHz?! Is it because of the HT? I will upload the pic in a moment. -
-
Why do you care? It's wrong and you can only get those values I listed before.

long story short, it is more like 4x1.6 than 8x1.6. yet, the processor will work best with 8 concurrent threads.
I almost went into a whole thing with long explanations and diagrams... instead, just take it:
4 cores, 8 virtual cores, 4x1.6ghz, 8 concurrent threads optimal. -
Oh and : LOL, I, somehow, got 50 FPS max MAXED OUT on metro 2033... -

Ok, I will upload in a sec. It was the MAX FPS tho.

max fps doesnt mean much. play any game on any settings and go into an indoor area and walk up to wall and stare at it. see what happens. or stare straight down.

I get 100+ (VSYNC off) FPS in Crysis at 1920x1080 Very High 8x AA if I look at the sky lol..

Almost done uploading.
Why when I play Crysis, my multiplier goes down?
