I'm looking to get an asus A7J with T2400 and X1600 mobility (256meg version), but when I looked through some of the benchmarks for the X1600 mobility in a comparable notebook (The A6J with T2500 and X1600 mobility), it listed CoD2 as unplayable period, even without AA. What is wrong with CoD2?

I know FEAR is very demanding on the video card, but the X1600 mobility plays it at 1024x768 at apporximately 30fps without AA, while CoD2 is unplayable with or without AA.

That's really interesting. I am playing CoD 2 on my X700 256MB (which the X1600 replaced) fine at 800x600, maxed out. XGA is fine if I just get rid of AF and turn down the lights.
I don't believe those results to be accurate. -
May be that CoD2 uses shader model 3, although I can't see why a x1600 wouldnt support it. Should at least work in directx 7 mode.
Could be bad info. -
Well I don't have CoD2 but I do have CoD and an x700 with 128mb of ram and it works fine. I can have all the setting on high. I would think you would need to set the settings on medium. It should definately work.

x1600 > x1400 ?
-
My 64MB x700 plays COD2 at 800x600 with settings at medium and low.
No reason for it not to work on a 256MB x1600.
And yes, an x1600 is better than an x1400. -
I have on my desktop computer a Nvidia Geforce FX5200 and I can run COD2 well.. dont know what settings but it's playable.
Is the FX5200 better than the x1400 ? or is the x1400 better? -

The FX5200 is horribly outdated, slower than an X300. You should read the graphics card guide at the top of this forum. If the card you are looking for isn't in there, then try a google search.

from what i have heard, COD2 is "poorly optimized", but there is no reason a x1600 should not be able to play it. either they dont know what they are doing, or they are doing something wrong..

Ok, so a patch should fix this? Or will drivers have to be modified?
-
If it can play FEAR it should be able to play CoD2. I think something must have been messing up their test.
-
it is most likely a driver issue..there are many games that at first are completely unplayable, but with a simple driver update play perfectly fine...most times, there are patches for the game that come out AND drivers that fix issues in the game...it could be anything, but like jstucker said..if the game can play F.E.A.R. then it can play CoD2, no questions asked.

Ok, that's great.
-
You read it's not playable, but have you tried it out yet?
I'm sure you can get it running unless it's a driver issue.
If you haven't tried it out yourself yet then hurry up and do so, if you have already and it didn't work then I am a moron.
Goodluck
Edit:: The date of that review is kind of old. Since its publication there have been a few new driver releases so I'm sure it will work now. I don't think Ati would stand around doing nothing if there was a problem as big as this with their new graphics chipset. -

I would think so as well. If anyone reading the thread has any personal experience with the matter please share your findings
! I actually recieved the game as a gift, but have not been able to play it (fx5200
) as of yet. I'm also looking at ghost recon advanced warfighter.

Can't wait to see the graphics on PC.

Well, I have a Dell inspiron 9400 with a 256 mb ATI X1400 card, and it just won't play COD2, and I tested it on MOHPA and it was like playing with a Pentium 2. Will look for driver updates on the gamesites, but it is highly annoying. Especially as yesterday I ran Richard Burns Rally without a flaw, and GTA San Andreas as well. Tonight I will try out FEAR, but somehow it can't just be a memory shortage (need to upgrade 512 mB to 1 Gb DDR2).
I am really curious what the cause is, and have already reinstalled all ATI drivers.... I am puzzled as well! -
I have a Acer 8204WLMI with the X1600. I can play COD2 while running powerplay on optimal battery settings. and it runs just great on running at full. Dont see what they are talking about.
-
are you running it under DX7? if not, give that a try..if it doesnt work then, then something is definitely wrong...drivers or otherwise.
pb,out. -
Well you are out of luck on the patch front for a while because IW was having trouble getting punkbuster to work (the anti cheat software). Still think its bad info. Its playabel on mine (go6600 256mb) and since the x1600 is in the same caegory but the next generation it should work better.

Played CoD2 demo last night on a new i6000 1.86, 512 mem, x300 128ram on default settings (800x600) - no issues.
Why won't X1600 mobility play CoD2???
