I just bought a brand new Asus M51SE-AP133C laptop. After the initial setup process, the first thing (and only thing) i have tried to install was 'Band of Brothers: road to hill 30'. For some reason it will not work. Please can anyone be kind enough to give me some pointers on why not...... below are my laptops specifications.

    Asus M51SE-AP133C
    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 - 2.16 GHz
    RAM: 3GB
    Hard Drive: 320GB
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 (memory 256mb)
    http://www.handb.pl/oferta/M51SE-AP133C,Asus,1007

On the Band of Brothers box, the minimum specifications required to run the game are:

OS: Windows 2000/XP (i have Vista, could this be the problem?)
    Processor: Intel Pentium 3 - 1 GHz)
    RAM: 512MB
Graphics: 64mb card - DirectX 9.0c & Direct3D (does my card support this stuff? is it pre-installed or do i need to do something?)
    Sound: card DirectX 9.0
    Hard Drive: 5GB

Any advice would be very much appreciated, thanks!

    Regards
    Ali

What do you mean it "won't work"? That's pretty vague. Error?

i believe it's Brother in Arms, and it came out in 2005 i believe, so my guess would be your OS, since i ran it on my desktop on minimum settings, the specs are in my sig

Sorry folks, the game is called "Brothers in Arms: road to hill 30". I got a bit mixed up with Spielberg tv series there. Apparently, this game is on most of the top 100 pc games lists of all time, so i'm guessing should be well known to gamers?

The game installs ok, the icon appears on the desktop. When i click on it to open up the game some sort of advertisement appears ( which i pressume should be followed by the game) but thats it, nothing happens. After about 1 minute of the advert ending, the window autimatically closes.
If i go to the start menu, my computer, programe files, the Ubisoft folder is there, inside is the 'brothers in arms' folder with all the sub folders listed such as 'system' etc etc.

Can anyone tell me if i need to install "DirectX" onto my laptop or should my graphics card automatically have this?

Right click on the icon, go to properties, and run in "Compatibility Mode".

Vista has DirectX built in, no need to install such things. You could go to the asus website and see if they have new video drivers for your ati graphics card. (checking for direct link)

And make sure you have the latest updates from Windows Update.

If all this doesn't work, do the following:
right-click the shortcut to the game, go to the compatibility tab, select Windows XP or 2000. Then try to run it again.

    Thanks, i'll try that.

I'm thinking i need to download 'DirectX 10' from Microsofts website. However, i am having trouble finding the latest version of it on there site, does anyone know if this is the latest version for me to download:

Does anyone else think thats the problem, that my laptop does not have direct x installed?

I thought perhaps the graphics card would be automatically set up to run these games without having to download anything!

i don't think it would be necessary to get dx10, which only work with games made after the year 2007 i think. since the game specs doesn't say it's compatible with vista i suggest you to get XP installed first

Interesting, i pressumed that Vista would run all recent games released in the last few years. You would have thought that Microsoft could have worked that one out, no?

I found brothers in arms to be the worst world war based game I've ever played. The graphics were subpar, when you move around it doesnt feel smooth, the textures go funny....all types of weird **** youd expect from a budget or poorly developed game.

Anyway, Vista will run the game if configured properly. Have you updated the game through patches or anything?
