Hello everyone, I have learned a ton on this forum and recently purchased a Clevo M570A. It is wonderful, but I was wondering why I cant OC the graphics card.
Its not a big deal really, as my highest 3dmark05 was 6945 and thats great! I just was wondering if someone knew what the deal is.
I like to have control over my settings and its bugging me. Plus I have read that other people OC'd their 7800gtx, so why wont mine retain the settings? I can adjust the sliders and test the speed, but I dont think the card is retaining the setting. For instance, if I close the window and reopen it again, the speeds are back on stock settings.
Thanks for your help,
Matt

6,945 is a very high score in 3DMark05.
When you restart the computer, it will automatically revert to default settings. Keep in mind that overclocking is taking a risk, but it is small if done right.
With ATI cards, there's a program called ATI Tray Tools where you can create and save profiles, and you can also tell the program to load a certain profile on startup. Perhaps there is something similar to that for Nvidia, we'll have to wait for someone to chime in. -
Thanks for the reply...I did some searches that I should have done before posting, and I see that this topic has been around before. I didnt see any answers, just some speculation on flashing the video bios, which I am NOT going to risk doing.
The NVtray utility does allow the coolbits OC option, and in that windows there is a check box to "apply at startup".
When I check that box and restart, it appears that the screen flashes once like it was adjusting the GPU/MEM clock, but when you open the OC settings, there I am back at stock speeds. lol....
Anyway, yes I am happy with my 7800gtx, there really isnt a need to OC...just was curious if anyone has done this on a Clevo M570A. I thought that I had read someone did it once already....?

Hmmm, with the XPS m170, you DO have to flash the video card BIOS, I am not sure if you have to for any other comp though. I guess if nothing else is working, that would probably be my bet

Well I checked msconfig and I do have Nvidia starting with windows, so that cant be the problem. Maybe I should ask in the Sager forum if anyone has OC'd their 5720's 7800gtx.
I was just hoping there was a way besides a GPU bios flash.
If anyone knows anything, please chime in...

If I were you, I wouldn't even worry myself with OCing in the first place, you GPU is a beast man...but I can certainly understand why you want to......because you can, am I right? I am the same way...if it can be better/faster, I wants it -
Yes I have tried 5 or so different drivers, and right now I am using the latest Xtreme-G 7800gtx drivers. They work great and I am VERY happy with my system.
It's just like you said, I just wanted to OC just to do it, I guess...LOL...just very strange that this card seems locked...

Rivatuner baby, Rivatuner. Nvidia owner's companion.
Get it, but be careful it can be dangerous if you mess with advanced settings. That program was MADE for Nvidia cards, so get it. You can also turn off safe overclocks, so you can set clock speeds without having to TEST first. I like that feature because the TEST feature is not always right. Sometimes it allows for certain clock settings, and other times not.
Cheers,
Mike
Edit:: It also lets you save your settings for 2d/3d and sets these clockspeeds on bootup. -
Thanks for the replies...I found my answer on another Sager forum. Seems other had similar problems, until a full uninstall of ALL drivers and a re-install of the desktop version of the 7800gtx with a modified INF file from laptopvideo2go to trick it. Basicly allows installing a desktop driver but the laptop thinks its a mobile driver.
Just scored a 7478 3dmark05 w/ no visible artifacts.
440core/1200mem....fairly conservative settings I would say. I'm HappY!
Why wont my 7800gtx retain OC settings?
