are the games that are skipping online or offline?

Because if is is online then that more likely then not it's your internet connection.

Maybe it's just when it's accessing the HDD. Some games frequently load data and it causes a short pause.

Some console games like GTA and Halo do this quite a bit.

It most likely one of the processes in the background. I suggest turning them off. If you are going to play online, get a different firewall that doesn't take up so much resources (Norton=resource hog).

There is really nothing you can do about that...

HDDs (even the nicest ones) are huge bottlenecks. The are not able to move data anywhere near the speed of the processor or RAM. This problem wont be fixed untill HDDs are replaced with flash memory... So just try to accept it for now.

    Which game?

Remember even though games may run smoothly many stutter because of loading or other problems.

I say disable norton while playing the game see if that helps.

NFS Most wanted stutters for me on my laptop and my desktop, it's just a demanding game.

Please list the games that stutter.

As some folk have already told you, disable Norton. Norton is a poorly written app for the consumer version that will slow down anything.

If you need detailed steps to disable Norton, follow it's online help or use google.

that game has short pauses on every system. if somebody say they don't have pauses, they are either too slow to notice or lying.

His HDD is unlikely to be the issue with 2gb of ram.

Thing is NFS Most wanted is demanding as hell and you will get stuttering. Can't help it unless you have a 512mb videocard with crazy specs.
