For the fans of strategy games: Civilization 3 supports widescreen unofficially. To make it run in widescreen resolution do the following:
    1. Find file Civilization3.ini
    2. Add the line "keepRes=1"
    3. Run the game.

This fix does not help in the city view, but the adventure map occupies all the screen.

add UT2K4 to that list, i play it on 1440X900 and it looks great.

Changing this option is simple, just go into the UT2K4.ini and look for the current resolution you have it set for and put ANY numbers you want.

you can also do this command while in game in consol. SETRES WxHxD so mine would be (press tildy ~ to get consol) SETRES 1400x900x32 then press enter.

    17" PowerBook
    1.5GHz PowerPC G4
    1GB SO-DIMM PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM
    ATI Redeon 9700 Mobility 128mb
    80GB Ultra ATA @ 5400rpm
    SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)

Star Wars Galaxies - is it the same as Star Wars: Supremacy/Rebellion?

I have tried to update the topic and the editor screwed up my initial post. Now there are some strange "<" symbols all over it.

If you video card is ATI then you can go Display properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Displays -> Panel and uncheck Scale image to panel size. Sometimes it works, like in Warcraft 3 you will have black stripes on the sides but the picture is going to be OK - not stretched. For other games, like Heroes of Might and Magic, it just does not work, because the game runs in the small rectangle in the center of the screen and you have black space all over it. For
Star Wars Galaxies I guess you have to try different things and choose which one is better for you.

i play aoe 2 conquerors on my widescreen laptop and unfortunately can only run it at the middle resolution (1024x768) and its really annoying, but the image doesnt look stretched at least. I wish i could run it at 1280x800!!!

Starcraft looks a little bit stretched same as Warcraft 3 - so if you are not picky it will work fine with you.
Quake 3 counts in "Steam Powered" games (Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic, Day Of Defeat, Half-Life, etc.), so it works fine with widescreen laptops.

I can personally confirm that Everquest runs in widescreen mode. In display options it lists my systems 1280x800 resolution as an option and I play using it everyday with no problems. I just need a USB mouse because using the touchpad is really inconvenient.
