I'm reading about this POS product from this POS company, and I'm sorry, but I can't stay neutral when it's basically spyware.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WildTangent
As the beginning of 2007, WildTangent has removed its Web Driver bundle. About delay of half year, since June 2007, it has begun to coming back to bundle its new software: Game Console, this tool provide like a catalog helps launch, view shortly the main information of WildTangent's games. This issue makes a larger file download, longer file installing, reinstall every time users install games from WildTangent and it's also an advertising service for WildTangent
It's basically a format for using a gamepad with a laptop or pc.
It's like Steam, only it's a steaming pile of piss. -
Does this sort of thing irk anyone else?
When big companies choose to not give a damn whether or not their products hurts you, they simply care that some fool gave them money? -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
it seems pointless.
is there anything else it does. -
The first wild tangent online kit was always flagged as spyware by spyware apps, but it wasn't, it was just the failed competitor to what flash became for online games. Wild Tangent was used by several companies to push their content (Windows Media Player, Winamp plugins, AIM) and it collected the EXACT same information Steam collects from your computer. So yeah, while your ranting, include Steam in your spyware beatdown.
Second, referring to post #2 WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?
The Orb 'console' provides free AAA gaming using advertisements, it isn't even out for a month and you are already bashing it like it kidnapped your kids. And I bet you that you can use a keyboard and mouse instead of a gamepad, the reason the features are so console-centric is because most people have NO idea how to run games on a computer. For that matter, they have no idea what system requirements mean. ORB only displays games it knows your hardware will support and gives you the option to play them with a controller.
No, it doesn't irk me for 3 reasons.
1. This is the kind of radical software that could help the PC Gaming industry.
2. The product doesn't hurt me, at all. How does this hurt ANYONE? If I don't like it I will remove it.
3. It's free. The PC could possibly turn into a type of television for gaming. Free content streams paid for by ads. It really is a brilliant idea, especially for the majority of PC Gamers (flash game users, casual game players), it doesn't do anything much for or against us 'hardcore PC gamers' (gamers who buy PC games, install them, fix them, and play them).
4. Piracy becomes almost moot when people can just go online and play their games without messing with torrents or installation woes. This is what NBC/FOX did with their online tv show services.
For me, I'll probably always prefer Steam to a service like ORB, but it is about darn time someone came up with a system like this.
So come back when you have used it (mid-April), and THEN I'll consider your rant a valid argument. -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
what are you talking about i wasnt bashing it, hows saying ive never heard of it mean im bashing it. -

-
I see no problems with steam.
-
Let's try to be objective here. You seem pretty angry at the moment.
Why don't we get some more information before we start bashing it?
Btw, Steam rules.
Wildtangents Orb, the next Starforce?
