pentium m 740(1.7ghz)
ati m 9700 64mb(not sure if its 128 mb or 64mb but let s just say its 64mb)
512 mb ram
Is it possible to add more video card rams??
and if i upgrade my sys rams to 1gb will it help?
ps I can play HL2: 1024X768 medium settings with no lags
-
You can't upgrade your video card ram. My 64MB x700 plays it fine...and your 9700 isn't that much slower, so I'd assume so. I run mine at 1024x768 with medium settings...so I'd guess you could at least run 800x600 at low.
The 512MB of ram will be your biggest drawback. Upgrade as much as you can. 1GB will make a big difference...1.5GB being basically the sweet spot(only a very minimal increase when you go to 2GB). -
if i have my rams upgrade to 1gb
will it play bf2 at 1024X768 medium low setings or 800X600
high settings??
Should i sell my laptop and buy another one thats exactly same as mine but with 128 mb video ram..
srry for my bad english .. english isnt my 1st language -
I think 1024x768 is not very likely. Maybe, but I doubt it'll be very playable. 800x600 is more likely at low settings. I don't see high settings being an option at all(especially if you just have 64MB of ram).
Even if you find one that's the exact same with 128MB of RAM, won't help that much. That card's still a little old. The cost of that kind of upgrade wouldn't be worthwhile.
I played mine at 800x600 briefly and it was still decent. Obviously it doesn't look as good as the higher resolutions, but it still looks good and is easily playable. -
800x600 low/medium settings....
will it (bf2)look worse than hl2 1024x768 medium settings -
I would say a lot worse. HL2 still looks pretty good today.
-
how about CoD2 and CoD1
will my laptop run it? -
definitely. im using a ati radeon 9700 64mb and it can run bf2 at low to medium settings at 1024x768 but i did the widescreen hack for it to run in 1280x800. thats with 512 system ram. i suggest u upgrade to 1gb ram for better performance.
COD1 and COD2 can run fine but COD2 only in directx7.0 mode(everything high though). ati radeon 9700 is a pretty decent card but u should dl some omega drivers and overclock it a bit cos most of the time its underclocked by quite a bit -
BF2 needs a minimum of 1.5gb ram (i prefer 2gb), to play somewhat smoothly. your 9700 should be able to play it, on lower settings. cod1 it should be able to handle. cod2, might be much harder..try DX7 mode.

dose CoD2 dx7 mode look nice?
which one looks nicer CoD2 dx7 mode or BF2 low medium setings..
which one should i get -
It's hard to say what "looks nice".
I like BF2 even at 800x600. The higher res's just look a little more detailed. The increased settings just kindof polish it up a bit...but even at 800x600...it's the same game. The visual bells and whistles aren't as important as the game play to me.
COD and BF2 are two completely different animals. COD1/2 are primarily single player games. They do have multiplayer, but it's nowhere near as sophisticated as BF2. BF2's single player is tolerable at best...but multiplayer is where it really shines.
You really shouldn't compare them. -

Try DX7 mode? Erm no point. It has about an 8% performance impact.
-
will it run CoD2 dx7 mode 1024x768 with max/med settings?
-
uh running it in directx 9 mode has a adverse effect on performance as in my case. it was unplayable in lowest settings directx9 mode. it was like 20-30 fps. unplayable in my opinion. But it ran smooth as silk in directx7 mode in 1280 x 800 all high. so the answer to your question is YES! lol
and by the way has anyone heard of BF 2142? i saw the cover of pc gamer just now. looks pretty cool -

Well it does have a HUGE impact on effects so it does sacrifice a lot.
