I am upgrading from:
AMD TL-64 @ 2.2(1mb L2)
2gb DDR2
4200RPM HDD
ATI HD 2600
To:
Intel T9300 @ 2.5(6mb L2)
3gb DDR2
7200RPM
nVidia 8600m GT 256mb
I am hoping the new one will allow me to play Crysis and do better in general for gaming. So will I notice any difference in performance? Or will it be to small for me to really notice?
thanks,
Travis

Yes. But it won't really be a nigh/day difference.
-
nope not. muchas the vid cards are basically the same power more or less. u will probably get a better boost in the cpu departments as it has way way more cache.
-
You will see the most "boost" in performance with the 3gb and the 8600
-
Agreed. You will get slightly higher framerates, but its not going to be like going from an x3100 to an 8600m.
-
There's one area where you will see quite significant gains though. Loading times are probably going to be improved as the 7200 is much faster than the 4200.

right. you will see a boost but in general this is not a practical upgrade. the new machine is somewhat faster. thats all.
-
Although I will say the processor is QUITE a bit faster, which will also help your framerates a bit.

Well, I can tell you I DID notice a big difference... First off my 3DMark06 score went up about 1500, and I was able to crank CoD4 to pretty much max settings and have NO lag at all. Crysis was also a lot better, running in on 1440*900(native) with everything medium, with my old AMD/ATI unit I couldsnt even go full screen without it lagging BAD! So I am pretty happy, though I do kinda miss 17" and an actual numeric pad.

you will be disappointed, always.
there will be a difference but idk if the jump is worth it. maybe shell out a bit extra?
Will I be dissapointed...
