Will I need the GF8 series' DX10 capabilities in the next 2 years?

I've decided to get a 14" laptop to use for around 2 years, and the GPUs come down to Go 7700 or 8400m GS

I'm pretty sure in terms of raw power, 7700 is better than 8400, but 8400 is DX10-ready.

The question is, will DX10 be needed in most games a year or so from now? Because if DX10 becomes the norm, I'll need the 8400, if not, then I'd rather get the 7700 for better performance in DX9 games.

Most games will have a choice between DX9 or DX10.

    So it isn't a necessity.

Do you think the 8400 powerful enough to play on medium for games like Warhammer/SC2?

From what I've see although the 8400 is DX 10 capable...I think its too weak even in DX 10 mode. I'd get the 7700. GL!

Yes, and I'm guessing the Asus A8js is the 7700 option?

Way too expensive, since I'll be getting a new one in 2 years, and Zepto puts a 25% GST onto your order if you want it to ship internationally.

The Go 7700 performs like a 8600M GS and faster than a 8400M GT so it would be a much better choice than the 8400M GS despite lack of DX10 capability. It's almost assured that all games in the next 1 and a half years (2 years from DX10's release) will work on DX9.0c hardware.
