I want to get a 6990M laptop but I'm not sure whether NVIDIA demos will run on the ATI cards or not. If not then I'm probably going to get the 580M. I know the price difference isn't worth it but I really like NVIDIA's Supersonic Sled demo- Supersonic Sled HD gameplay - YouTube. So... you might all say that I will get bored of that game after 20 min. of playing but I actually love it for some reason (I know, I'm weird  but I REALLY want to play that game for some reason!!!). Would it be possible to run an NVIDIA demo on the 6990M?

I do not have a 6990 (I have 5870M) and have successfully run various Nvidia Demos. The issue I believe may be that the demos are optiized for Nvidia cards, but will still run, especially on a high end card like the 6990.
I noticed that it is 3D, I would be glad to try once I get home. I am not sure it is a playable game, the DL is only about 225 MEG

It's actually $250. But you're kind of right. I may be a massive idiot.

Oh, no, it is definitely a playable game. See the little bar at the bottom with all the controls? But I guess it's considered more of a benchmark than a game. Also- how do you "optimize" a game for NVIDIA cards? What does that involve doing? I don't think you will be able to run that game very well with the 5870M, though, because it says on their website that it is made for the 400 or 500 series- the really high-end ones. How did you notice it was 3D? It didn't look 3D to me.

If anybody who has a high-end ATI card would download that demo and see if it works well, I would be VERY grateful. Thanks everyone.

I don't think certain demos which need NVIDIA tech will not run. The others should run.

Why is this important? They are demos to show off Nvidia tech... Marketing tools. Useless.

There are more useful benchmarks and tools out there to measure GPU performance.

This will be a new low for GPU decision making in the decision between AMD and Nvidia. Deciding to buy because of a demo that is used for marketing purposes...
