I've pre-ordered the game and now I need to order a laptop around $1000 that can run it. My two choices at the moment are the Asus N550JV or the Lenovo y410p. They both have the same card (750m) except for DRR3(Asus) vs DRR5(Lenovo) and the possiblity of adding a second graphics card to the Lenovo and going SLI. Thoughts?

Total war games (like most other RTS games) are heavy on the CPU and the GPU, more so than, say, FPS'. That being said, the 750m can run TW if you have the quad core (which I believe comes default with all the 410ps?). I don't see any reason to go for the ASUS if they are similarly priced.

Regarding the decision to add a 750m, I think its a bad idea. A 750m MXM module will run you what? $350? For an extra $350, you could get a laptop with a 770m that gets you similar or better performance than the two 750ms you would have. SLI on the 750m is pointless imo. You could always get a better laptop for the price of the upgrade.

The real thing you should be looking at is if you want the battery life. If so, go with the ASUS. If not, go with the Lenovo. Even with one video card in the Lenovo, you won't get Optimus.

Why not post in the What Notebook Should I Buy forum, using the form there? I really think there are alternatives for you, depending on what screen size you want to aim for. There are inexpensive Clevo 13, 14, and 15 inch laptops that offer the 765m, which would blow away the 750m in performance.

Let me rephrace that: It's a good bang for your buck.

However the AMD CPU is indeed not that good.

I agree with this. Post in the What Notebook Should I Buy forum. Right now I would recommend a Clevo W230ST. For $1200 you can get a system that will be much better than the ones you listed.

Thanks for the replies! I like the Asus not so much for the battery life, but for its all aluminum build quality, style, and touch screen. Also, sheer power isn't as important to me as long as performance for the games I play is decent. For instance, if I could run Rome II on ultra settings I would definitely go for the Asus even though the Lenovo might be better at Crysis 3 and other games.

Will do. I posted there a couple weeks ago without getting a reply, but I'll try again.

Based on reviews it looks like the game reminds me of Guild Wars... doesn't need the best GPU but it loves raw CPU power. No matter what CPU you have the performance won't be spectacular unless they optimize the game better. That being said for your price range a W230ST can go for about $1000. It'll have a Geforce 765m and a 2.4Ghz quad core.
