I just recently got an Asus g53sx-B571-CB1L (not sure about the last 8 letter lol) as a gift for my birthday. I know its 2 years old but its cheaper compared to the new G55. Anyway here are the specs
i7
2670m Processor 2.2G
16Gig 750GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GTX 560M
Note: I still dont have it yet but I was wondering if BF3 and starcraft 2 runs, and what settings? How about Diablo 3.
Sorry for so many question, I dont really know much about computers. I would really appreciate anyones help. Thanks guys!

1080p medium/high (mostly high), probably without AA.

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
His version is the bestbuy version as the laptop code says (BSTx).
Which means he has a gimped 560m, 128bit version, probably 2gb.
If that's the case, unless you overclock it heavily, your performance will be really low in those games.
I can advice a few settings based on card specs:
1280x720 with medium details and SSAO, no AA or AF (try to see what framerate you get, I think around 40 of average, if it's higher you can try HBAO. In case performance is sub par disable it completely).
1080p with low settings and SSAO (same tweaks applies as above)
For Starcraft 2 I don't know, but I guess you'll be fine at 1080p medium details.
Also try to install last Nvidia beta drivers using a clean method (link in my sig) but before doing so, download the verde notebook package and launch it.
If it doesn't give you any error like Card not supported, close it and stick to the guide.
Hope it helps. -

Agree with the rest of your post, though. The OP is not looking at anything better than 1280x720 with medium settings in BF3. SC2 could be done at 1080p, same settings. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Yeah you're right, theres no other version of the SX available, just remembered.
Sorry if it was misleading tho.
Probably I got confused due to various SW versions out there (one gimped from bestbuy and one not) which had 460m (I had a g53sw, not the BB version).
He mentioned he didnt got it yet; if you can avoid it, the system is already old and the gimped 128bit 560m is already at the bottom of the gpu cards.
As an example the full 560m struggles, even if less, to get BF3 and Witcher 2 playable when pumping up settings.
If the full ones does go figure the gimped one. -
I can run starcraft 2 at high 1080p on my 540M GT 40fps+ and can pretty much max it out at 720p on the built in screen so you should be fine with high to ultra settings it is far from intensive and I am using a ULV as well.
Battlefield 3 however you will probably be ok with high 1080p without AA for the campaign but reckon you may need to go medium for online depending what frames you are satisfied with.
128bit 560M GTX running at 1080p is not going to max out the latest games depending on if its a bargain price but if you are not fussed limiting your settings then it will perform ok, it is mid range after all so you cannot expect to max everything with it. -
everyone thanks for replying but what do you mean for battlefield I can run it without AA, WHATS AA?

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Anti aliasing, basically it removes the jaggies on the polygons.
-
I see thanks guys I really appreciate it!
-
Cool! My asusg53sx plays battlefield 3 all on ultra and full settings =) thanks again

Thats undermining the power of his by a lot. He can play BF3 at around 30-40fps at 1080p with primarily medium settings and AA off. -
People get a little silly on here at times.
"7970M? Psh, you'll be lucky to run at 800x600 on low with that junk." -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Ive posted what i posted, because last time i used a crippled 560m in a g53sx, it wasnt able to stay at 30fps @ 1080p, medium, without Ambient Occlusion.
thats why. Im not undermining anything, if things got better, thats good.
Also i adviced to him to start from 720p, with medium settings, and move up with settings and res until he feels comfortable enough. -
Heres my BF3 settings which run smoothly
Texture quality ULTRA
Shadow quality ULTRA
Effects quality ULTRA
Mesh quality ULTRA
Terrain quality
Terrain Decoration
Anti Aliasing deferred 4xMSAA
Anti Aliasing post HIGH
Motion Blur - ON
Anisotropic Filter - 16X
Ambient Occlusion - HBAO
Thanks again, peace! -

Which resolution you're using?
If that runs smoothly above 40fps you got a strange card lol -
No way can mikezzz2012 run that at 30fps and at 1080p with those settings, I call bull crap lol.
for me, the minimum fps is 30 for playability. -
Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
My 7970m gets an average of 52fps (sometimes higher or lesser, depends on the map itself) with ultra preset but without AA.
Unless he's using a very low resolution, but even so, 485m OCed wasn't able to reach 55fps with same settings and 720p.
So it really depends what "smooth" means for him, because if that's 25-30fps best case, there's no way that it's gonna be playable decently in multiplayer.
The difference is too much to let skills help. -
Hi, only the 2Gb version has the crippled 128bit lane, the 1.5 and 3GB version have 192. I was deciding between this and the np8130 but found out about this and jumped on the sager one. Starcraft should be playable at ultra 30+ no AA BF3 anything above high is redundant, but I recommend low settings and only mesh quality to ultra and proly you can squeeze in 2xAA but you wont notice a big difference.

my resolution is 1366x768, and yes it runs smoothly well. My friend was shocked
my asus g53sx max resolution is 1366x768 and thats what i used. anyway, if u dont believe me thats fine. Peace out -

I dunno but thats what it shows here, max rsolution 1366x768

-thats all I know Im just glad it does a great job =) -
Oh btw guys, which do you think is better, Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty modern warfare 3?
-
Bf3. Definitely. Better graphics, and more stuff to do than just run and gun.

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
The 768p sounds weird indeed.
Wonder why tho, he should have either 900p or 1080p.
Unless its the driver, or maybe the precedent owner swapped the screen.
That gpu is better on low res, that's for sure, it's not a bad thing at all, but still it's strange. -
@Kingpinzero and fenryr423 Im confused, by resolution do you mean the one in the control panel display? It only says Mobile PC Display , 1366x768. So it should be higher than that? Or does it have something to do with me downloading the wrong asus driver for my laptop? Im a 1st time ROG user so I dont know much about these stuff. I can return this if I got ripped of or something.
Anyway the full laptop model is AsusG53SX-BS71-CBIL. And btw,Ive been having some problem registering online my accidental warranty protection since it keeps saying try again . And the sticker on the right side of the touchpad with the computer specs says Warranty 12 mos.
@hockeymass and R3D il try MW3 thanks! -

Nevermind here ya go guys =)
ASUS - Notebooks- ASUS G53SX
