Please help! I WANT to buy a Averatec 3715 laptop so BAD.
I just want to know weather it will play the sims 2but I just want to make sure...Will it even play games? well anyway even the sims (and expansion packs) would be fine.
It has:
- AMD sempron 3000+
-1.8 GHz
-512 mb
-80 gig hd
Graphics/Video Memory: VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP/shared memory (up to 64MB)
and if that is not enough could I upgrade it??
sorry so many questions!
THANKS EVERYONE!![]()

anyone?
-
I don't have the specs for the sims in front of me but I would say probably yes. I don't think it is a very graphics intensive game. Check the box and see how much video ram it needs.

please check thnak you http://thesims2.ea.com/help/detail.php?help_id=21
thank so much if u can -
What video card is that? I know the sims 2 require Intel, ATI, or Nvidia cards.
-
it is a VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP/shared memory (up to 64MB) <??
-
could I change that to a ATI, intel or nividia? ? ?

You can't upgrade the video card - read the sticky at the top of the forum. And no, that will be terrible at playing games. I doubt you could run anything. I suggest completing the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can help you out with choosing a laptop.
-
I think you would need a 2.0 GHz processor to use that card. Even then the setting would have to be on low. Yeah fill out the form that Chaz said and we can help you even more.
-
I'm 99.9% sure the sims 2 wont run on it. It;s not a supported card. But fill out the fact, and we can find you something that will.
-
ok thanks i will do that

I dont know much about the screen resolutions, but I want something that will make games look good.

b. SXGA = Super eXtended Graphics Array; 1400x1050; This resolution offers a middle ground between XGA and UXGA.
c. UXGA = Ultra eXtended Graphics Array; 1600x1200; This resolution will give you the smallest viewable text and images while offering the greatest amount of screen real estate.
d. WXGA = Widescreen eXtended Graphics Array; 1280x768 or 1280x800; This resolution offers the same as XGA except that there is more horizontal real estate; 1280 versus 1024. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
e. WXGA+ = Widescreen eXtended Graphics Array+; 1440x900; This resolution is offered on 17" widescreen notebooks and is comparable to WXGA in terms of text and icon size versus available screen real estate. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
f. WSXGA+ = Widescreen Super eXtended Graphics Array; 1680x1050; This resolution is comparable to SXGA in that it offers a middle ground between WXGA/WXGA+ and WUXGA. Popular for movie viewing due to support for widescreen.
g. WUXGA = Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array; 1920x1200; This resolution offers the smallest viewable text and images while offering the greatest amount of screen real estate.

I'd take a look at the Compaq V2000Z. It's not going to give you that great of performance, but for $800 or less, you can't expect much.
If you are willing to go a bit bigger, there is the Compaq V5000Z, which has a slightly better video card. It has a dedicated X200M 128MB vs. the shared one in the V2000Z. -
That was my second choice for laptops but would the averatec 8100 series laptop work for the sims 2?

Could you post a link to the laptop you are looking at?
-
What are the specs on that one? -
I think this one would be excellent for you http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...CategoryId=pcmcat39100050016&id=1130986342986
I mean, It wont perform with everything on high, but it will do soso. But it is a little bit over your price. -
yes here are some links I did some research....
some quick specs: http://laptopmag.com/Review/Averatec-4100.htm?Page=0
and also a quick review by the same website (it says it can play FarCry but I am not framilliar with that game but it looks like a high graphics game.)

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP! -

No problem.
That is a terrible graphics chip indeed:
The V2000Z gets my recommendation on a smaller scale.
You can customize both at www.HPShopping.com

It seems like nothing I want will play games
but I will take the compaq V5000Z into consideration, becasue I have looked into those before looking at the averatecs. But doesnt it sem like a $1,000+ should be able to play a couple games?
also the dell XPS M140 looks good for 849 and it is a multimedia notebook. it has a Integrated IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 , 512 Mb, 60 Hd. Is it good? or.........not -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
It does indeed, but technology is coming down in price, always.
You could build yourself a decent desktop that can play games for under $1,000. -
hey again, I found a similer one I also really like take a look, would that suit my needs?

That still has a GMA900, which means no games. Take a look at the Mobile Graphics Card Chart at the top of this forum for a better explanation.
