Could this/will this happen? Please? I ask because I have about $800 to blow on a laptop that can play games. Any thoughts would be helpful.
    Thanks.

Yes, the integrated X3000 with the 965 chipset will accompany the new processors in the Santa Rosa platform. There performance is actually quite good, and will be good for gaming.

I would save up unless you need a laptop now. You could use a few hundred dollars upgrading your gpu in the desktop you have. 800 bucks will not buy a very good best gaming laptop.

The G965 will release when Santa Rosa releases, which I believe is some time in May. It will be quite expensive when it does release, and only a handlful of notebooks will be equipped with Santa Rosa (Centrino Pro). Dell will most likely be a company offering the new platform. After a few weeks, supply should increase, and the prices should decrease and also more notebooks with Centrino Pro will be available.

It's being released with Santa Rosa, which, according to Intel insiders, is slated for a May 8th release.

I read on NBR forum, I think, the first laptops equipped with the GM965 will come out at the end of may.

You may not be able to afford a Centrino Pro-based laptop with X3000 integrated graphics. Your best bet is a Dell E1505 with dedicated ATI Radeon graphics; check the Dell Outlet for deals. It is a good budget gaming laptop.

    -Around $800
-New G965 Chipset with intergrated gpu
....That's it. Can these two mix? Please?

An X1400 (A dedicated card), which is in the E1505 as Chaz suggested is better than the G965. Dedicated GPU's will in most cases always be better than integrated. Even though the G965 will be the best performing integrated graphics card, that doesn't mean that its better than a dedicated card. Try the Dell E1505 from an outlet store.. or maybe even using dell coupons.

If your main task on the notebook are not going to be massively processor intensive, then getting a notebook now will be a better idea, like Chaz and csinth have said. Current notebooks still have huge amounts of power, and Santa Rosa will only be a small increase in performance. Also, the Mobility X1400 in the Dell E1505 is a good graphics card, and is better than the X3000 that will come with the G965.

How about building a Asus S96J barebone? This should be in the range that I want.
The only downside is the low res screen and the speakers.
Could I posibly swap out the screen? Im pretty sure I could find maybe a 1680x.... lcd somewhere.
Sometime later if I get this I would dissasemble and swap the lcd.
Seems like a good choice huh?

You will not be able to get a barebones S96j and then spec it out. 1280x800 is by no means low res, it is alright for a screen that size.

Purchasing the S96j barebone, HD, Processor, RAM, and LCD will easily put you over $1000. LCDs are very expensive.

I would recommend, if you want to get a midrange laptop such as the S96j, to save up more money. You simply don't have the budget to get a decent gaming computer. If you were to consider a refurb Dell Outlet, you could get a decent gaming laptop for your budget. Look for a certified refurbished or previously ordered new, it is totally refurbished, inspected and tested to make sure it works alright.

You'll go over $1000. Unfortunately, with your budget, the only thing you'll be able to afford is either a refurbished/used laptop from a place like the Dell Outlet, or a new but really crummy integrated GMA950, Pentium Dual Core laptop from Best Buy.

Once you get $1300, you will have the money to purchase one of the best deals on the market today ... the Asus A8JP. It's the cheapest yet most powerful laptop deal I've seen yet. Radeon X1700, Core 2 Duo T7200 all packed into a 14.1" laptop, for only $1300 at Newegg. Ridiculous.

I am not going to get a new lcd right away, sorry if I was unclear.
    I put htis list together:
    Asus barebone - 565
    80gb 7200rpm nb hdd - 90
    intel celeron 1.45ghz cpu - 82
    1gb 533 ram - 63
intel mini pci wireless card - 20
    NEC Slimline DVDRW - 70

    Total:$890

What is the name of that website that makes it easy to find the lowest prices for stuff...not pricegrabber....not froogle......

    www.pricewatch.com.

It will be cheaper in the long run to simply get the Z96J with the WSXGA+ LCD instead of the S96J with the WXGA. If necessary, I agree with the others, you may want to wait until you have another few hundred dollars so you can get the higher-res LCD, dual-core processor, and more RAM.

Mind that a single core processor 1.45 ghz will be the bottleneck of your system, going dual core will probably be worth the extra money.

where do you recommend I get it from?
    cheapest/best quality place/site?
edit: oh yea, and Im in the process of looking up all this stuff and checking out different prices.
I found a dvd burner for $40 instead of the $70 one that I listed above. I will probably try to get the parts for the best price avalible, then go dual core so I can keep my budget.

I just recently bought a barebones Z96J, for around $1,100 total. It has proved to be an amazing purchase. Buying from 1toppc.com (GenTech) was great and Ken provided great assistance. I would recommend buying from them. I supplied the optical drive (careful with the front bezel of your old one, may not fit) and RAM, but had Ken install the processor, HD, and wireless card. It really is a great way to go about buying a computer.
