    Hi

Can anyone tell me if the following games ive listed below will run
smoothly on my notebook at a resolution of at least 1024x768
(not to bothered about extra detailing like shadows for example)

Also are these games vista compatible and will there be any
trouble running these games on vista, as some of my old games
like KOTOR/KOTOR 2 i have real trouble even starting the games
    let alone playing them.

    Games
    Bioshock
    Crysis
    Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
    Star Wars Empire at War

    My Notebookk
CPU: Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T7700 (2.4Ghz)
    RAM: 3GB DDR2
GPU: 512MB Ati Mobility Radeon HD2600
    HDD: 250 GB Hard Drive
    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium
    Display: 17" TFT Trubrite (1440X900)

P.S. How good will my notebook be for running future games like
farcry 2 at the settings i specified above for the next year or so?

    Thankyou

I know for a fact bioshock and crysis will work with vista. unsure about the others. as for your videocard. the Ati Mobility Radeon HD2600 is comparable to the Nvidia 8600m gt. I have the dual 8600m in my sli1 and they run crysis and bioshock beautifully. you should be good to go for those games, maybe a bit sluggish for crysis but should be playable at the very least on low settings. for the future i would probably say that your card will be ok as it is DX10 compatible (crysis is probably a good measure of the resources that
DX10 games will be using in the near future) if you can run crysis smoothly you should be decently futureproof.

you should be able to run all of those just fine. EAW runs great on my lappy with Vista, and i've played quake wars on it without trouble.

The ATI HD series is roughly a half-model-step lesser than its equivalent Nvidia card.
Thus in this case it will perform somewhere between an 8600GS and the 8600GT (DDR2). From previous threads, I'd say closer to the 8600GT DDR2.

A simple looksee on this board for 8600GT performance and keeping a lookout for the DDR2 model and roughly equivalent CPUs will give you an idea of roughly where this laptop will stand in terms of performance.

Note this isn't perfect as they are differing cards with similar performance.
Some games will run better on the ATI than the Nvidia equivalent and vice versa.

This isn't a rockstar-desktop-replacement GPU, but it is no slouch either. The CPU is among the better CPUs a laptop can have right now. (a few better, and not the heat-monger-desktop-CPU-in-a-laptop versions either)

I'd say you can pretty well play any game you want, but will have to make sacrifices in detail or resolution in pretty much every case for the higher end games. This will hold true of the future as well. Games will look very nice but you won't be able to turn up all the eye candy or run at 1440x900 in all cases.

Given that you are buying a laptop and not spending enough for a car payment, that should be a given.

If the games are set anywhere from 800X600 to 1280X1024, expect outstanding results. You can set it to 1600X1200, but don't expect the most amazing frame rates, even though it will still be playable, and enjoyable. Just no so much to the picky gamer.
