Im not sure if I need dedicated graphics or not. Ive been looking for a while for a good budget gaming laptop. I am not sure tho. The geek squad guy at best buy told me the 8610g amd would play those games well enough and this laptop is a slight bit better but ive been lied to before. Looking for atleast med settings with a solid frame rate. Can you guys help me out here? Thanks.

I doubt you'll get any satisfying experience gaming on that machine. Then again, at this price range there really aren't many options. Try looking at older laptops with the NVidia GT 650M such as Lenovo Y480 and Acer Aspire V3. The refurbished variety can get under $600 at which point it becomes a very good deal.

My price range quits at 600 so I will have to settle for something like that or perhaps a refurbished machine like you said. What settings do you think I could roll with the machine you recommended.
-
I'm gonna guess medium to med-high graphics without heavy anti-aliasing (I always stick to just SMAA anyway on my rig). The limited display resolution will help shield the lack of processing horsepower somewhat.. Somebody back me up or bash me down please..?

It will probably run CoD:G at low or at most medium settings, and BF4 won't be playable without looking like donkey butt, most likely not playable at all. Some of us have already been playing the BF4 beta for a few days now and it's very system intensive on all fronts CPU- and GPU-wise. I'd say you need a machine with at least a quad-core i7 and GTX-level mobile GPU. These laptops start at the $1000 price range and scale up from there. For gaming at $600 there's really no reason you should be going for a laptop. Building your own desktop at this price will get you much better components and performance.

BF4 beta is exactly that, it's beta. I have no doubt it will be more polished and run better when the full things releases. I agree about putting money towards a desktop though if that's your price limit. $600 on a laptop won't get you far, least of all any sort of decent gaming experience.

BF4 will be fine as long as there is a quad core CPU to go with the 650m. Might have to be medium/low to get a constant 30+fps at 720p, but that's more than reasonable given the budget.

BF4 is a CPU hog, period. It needs a fast quad core to perform well, at least beta. Who knows what it will be like with final code. But that laptop will be marginally playable.

I need a laptop because I travel back forth from work and home alot. I work 24 hours on so I don't really feel like lugging a desktop and monitor everywhere I go.

WIth a budget of $600 don't even bother. I suggest you hold off for a while till you get more money and look into a Clevo W230ST.

Well that's over twice my budget.

It seems that refurb and second-hand are the only options right now.. Good hunting.

That laptop will run both games but not well. Just constantly look at lenovo outlet for their y series. 750/650m will play most games at medium/highish especially at 768p. Ultrabay 750m should be here soon so that can be something you purchase down the road for more performance
Just found this on ebay. Good deal for $660 I think.

I actually bought my 410p on ebay with the 1600x900 monitor and 24gb sad for 795. I've read you can upgrade the screen on your own for ~$50. -
Yeah I've seen insane deals at the Lenovo outlet for refurb Y500/Y400. People have gotten fully decked-out systems with i7 quad, 650M SLI, 8GB-16GB RAM, 1080p, and SSD cache for ~$600. If you can get a steal like that you would have have a great system for these games that outperforms new laptops costing twice as much.
-
Yeah for $600 a refurb Y500 would be your best shot. Otherwise I agree, hold out and save up the cash and get something with a 760m or 765m for $800-$1000. You will be happy you did.

For the record I have run 320.18, 327.23, and beta 331.40. No real differences in performance to speak off except the newer drivers push utilization up a little and run a couple C hotter.
I have decided to stick with the beta drivers for the rest of the beta. One side affect I noticed is that I get bigger swing in fps range, about 10-12 fps.
My point was I am not sure that someone with a 650M that is getting 60fps/720 on high settings is really normal.
We all can be optimistic when discussing our things but we should keep in mind opinions influence others with their purchases.
So I am not saying the 650M owner never got 60fps. You can stand and look at the sky and get high fps for a minute. But really someone should not expect that to be normal or average fps for that card.
The card only gets 33@high in BF3. BF4, at least beta, is working your card much harder for less results.
Done now. Good luck OP with your search. -
Thanks for all the input. I'm actually leaning toward just getting a PS4 now tho lol. I've been convinced all this money into the laptop is just a bit much. If I knew MGS5 was coming to pc I'd probably pony up the cash.

Get a PC but a decent one.. forget about AMD Cpu's for Bf4 and every next gen games, they love Quads and love CPU power..
Wait and get more money in order to buy @ 800$ the lenovo IdeaPad Y410p.. -

You might be able to play it at low to medium graphic settings and a 1366x768 resolution with AA off but:
1- On the long run you will suffer fom overheating as this laptop is not engineered to cool down quickly under prolonged gaming hours. Problem can be overcome by:
a- set the air conditioner in your room to cool at 16-17 degrees celsius.
b- Keep the laptop elevated from any surface, just by placing support around its edges, and keep its vents unblocked. This will help cool air flow below and around the laptop which will allow you to play longer. I tested it myself with BF3 and Crysis 2 on an HP Pavillion at high settings and some other system tweaks. 23-30 avg FPS.
2- Fan noise will become unbearable as dust piles up. You will have to clean it up from the inside regularly and reapply thermal paste every 4-6 months, even earlier. -
Or play Titan Fall instead, a game focused on performance rather than nonsense graphical bling that still won't keep BF4 from probably sucking like BF3.

Are they complaining same as you are on DICE or EA forums? The devs should hear this before the game is out.
I am not ready to wait another 2 years for hopefully a proper BF5.reborn2003 likes this.
Will this Laptop play Bf4 and CoDG
