Hi i'm thinking of buying an acer laptop with the following specs:

    centrino 760 - 2ghz
    1024mb ram
    Radeon mobility x700 256mb
    100gb hard drive

will it play games like BF2 on high detail settings on 1024x768 pixels or more?

and other games like age of empires 3, possibly doom3 and others?

    Hi Darbyjack,

Yes, it will. Not sure about max settings, but you will surelly be able to have decent fps with good game look.

    Cheers,

The x700 is quite a good card... it shouldn't have a problem.

    thanks for telling me :)

I've been spending the past year saving up for this and it's gonna cost me £1009 inc VAT. not too bad for a 15 year old eh?

I can't wait to get my hands on it :p

oh and btw, will it make much difference if i get the 128mb x700 or the 256mb x700? I heard somewhere that games only use 128mb max

yeah, most games have 128mb as max but some newer games offer an "ultra" settings.
i'd also recommend you getting 256mb for the fact that in case it is an MXM (exchangable card) card it'll be an MXM-2 card, 128mb cards are MXM-1 most of the time.
btw, i was able to play BF2/AOE and doom3 on high at 1024x768..
you should also keep in mind that most notebook cards come underclocked i.e. mem clock 300 instead of 350..
what i'm trying to say is that notebooks offer much more hidden performance than anything else.
