I dont think so.... really really close though
-
What's it low on
-
It might have a 7800 GTX if i'm lucky
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
are you buying this computer?
-
i'm getting one for Christmas
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
Well, can you get a different one?
the graphics card is what its low on (which cannot be replaced)
and processor (which wont take the gpus job) -
It might have a 7800 GTX if i'm lucky
AND no........ -
i'll get 1gb more ram
-
This laptop should play AOE3 on high, but I would take something more modern, with a dual core CPU and geforce 7 or 8 graphics. Unless this notebook is dirt cheap
-

If you're lucky? 1 more gb of ram wont help the computer. If you get a 7800 GTX yes, you can play it on high with a 1440x900 res (thats what i play it at)
-
$399 a
-
i can put a 7800 vc in it....
-
how much is the 6800 worth.....
-
What is the actual CPU? You said 2.00 PM...what does that mean? Pentium M? They don't even sell the Penium M anymore. You can get a Core 2 for cheaper. And it would be dual core.
-
AOE III Is why i'm getting the laptop
How good would it run BF 2142 -
-
Is it good for $400 dollars
-
Now if you are referring to the 6800, then no. You really can't sell parts very easily off of a laptop because it isn't very modular and it would be hard to upgrade. You could get something like 80-150$ off of the video card if you sold it to a parts site...but then you'd probably be hard pressed to find a mobile GPU that would fit into the empty space you just made.
EDIT:
I don't know dude...unless you are getting this computer off of EBAY or something for really cheap, I'd suggest just getting a Dell or something. Like a 1520 with the 8600m GT and a dual core processor. -
im buying the system for $400
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
I wouldn't buy it if I was you. I'd get a dell vostro 1500 or inspiron 1520. for 200 dollars more
-
Good lord, am I the only one that thinks this whole discussion is lacking punctuation marks and details?
For 400$ , that is an awesome deal. But if you are buying the laptop specifically for those games, forget it. StormEffect is right on par, the 1520 Dell shoul be ok for that, and even newer games (crysis no no)
If you are fine with maybe medium, get the 400$ laptop,it's quite a bargain. But with 2 gb of memory. -
It is a Dell XPS 170 made in 2005 they still say its a good laptop
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
It is, but not for gaming. Its old. You need something like the dell 1520
-
I play Halo, Doom 3, C&C Generals and Half-life 1 (I know)
I want to play Halo 2, UT 2004, C&C Generals (On High), AOE III, Doom 3 (decent settings), Half Life 2, Crysis (But not really). I don't care for eyecandy (that much). The comp i got now is a 1.4 Athlon (without SSE) 512mb RAM Radeon 9000 nonpro 64mb. -
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
Crysis wont really play that well on a 6800
get the dell 1520, i cant tell you enough how much better of a deal it is -
-
I like the XPS LightFX anyway....

Okay okay, i see that. but still, the M170 wont play games in a year... or less
-
how good would it play the games i listed
-
would it produce xbox360 graphics
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
No, it wont, the Xbox360 will look nicer.
-

If you're talking about the 7800GTX, then that one wins, but the 6800 doesn't win at all.
-
so i need to buy a 7800 if it dont have one?
-
Crimsonman Ex NBR member
You cant upgrade it, so no you wont need to
-
yes you can
-

says who??? I dont think so

For 400$ it's a good deal...6800 is one of the best casual gamer card and isn't that bad if you don't want to play at the highest settings but sure is better than any integrated solutions or pathetic (dx10?) 8400.Consider that
geforce 8400gs <<<<<<<<<<<<<< 6800 < 7700 you can play at medium settings with all games until 2005 so don't believe that you can run Gears of War or Crysis on decent settings. The only advice is to upgrade ram and take 2gb.
If you take off shadows you can run AOE III at medium-high settings
But i haven't understand what type of cpu is?
I guess that a pc with xbox360 graphics would have a 7950gt far away from you budget... -
I have a 6800 card on my inspiron 9300 and I can play many new games at low settings. AOE III should be ok at low settings for sure.
-
-
The CPU is Pentium M M is for mobile
-
Look at my old computer
1.4 Athlon (Does no support SSE)
512mb 266mhz RAM
ATI Radeon 9000 Non-Pro 64mb 250mhz
40gb 7200rpm HDD
USB is broke
Some $15 dollar mother board i think Biostar
So as you can see i can't even play AOEIII (Because SSE Support) and i run halo on medium settings at 640x480. I'll get another laptop down the road but is this good for now. Even if it has 6800 Ultra....
PLUS:
"I have something to say to your friends. Tell them when I read this I was ROFLMAO. Not only is your M170 and my XPS Gen 2 more powerful than the Xbox 360, our systems defeat the 360 in every single performance category. We have just about twice as much graphical horsepower, do 2 to 5 extra commands per CPU cycle with our much more efficient and faster (not in terms of GHz) Intel CPU's, have way more memory, faster access times, and so many things I can't list them all. Don't believe the marketing hype BS. If you want to believe someone's marketing look at the Macs using Intel CPU's. Now how can switching from IBM to Intel make that much of a difference? Because Intel is better than IBM. IBM's are in the 360. Intels are in our laptops. We've got the upper hand. Microsoft dreams that the 360 could compete with one of our laptops and because in the performance tests it can't, they create a marketing scheme to make people think it's more powerful than what it actually is.
"
Gen 2's don't have a 7800.....
Plus what's the difference between the gen 2 and m170 if mine has a 6800.
Plus who does serious gaming on a laptop.... -
Does it run Richard burns rally good ?
-
nonya...I'm sorry for being so round about with all of this...I forgot to read your thread topic.
If you intend to play all of your games at 640x480, then I'm confident that you can play AOE 3 at medium or medium/high on that laptop with the 6800.
As for the XBOX360. The xbox360 will work better because it is built to play games. A laptop is not built to play games. If you'd gotten yourself a 7800+ series card, you'd be competing a little more readily with an XBOX360.
Whoever you quoted from sounds like quite the manipulator/salesman. His spiel about using Intel rather than IBM was the most loaded pile of... Anyway, his argument was completely irrelevant considering the fact that the IBM processor in the XBOX360 has multiple cores while a Pentium M as ONE.
The price isn't bad for $400, but do remember that the hardware is two years old. -
It should play fine see here.
But, I do recommend going with a different, newer laptop. -
I don't know what video card i have i'm getting it for christmas...
I don't intend playing at 640x480 i'm used to sucky graphics. -
The AOE3 should run very good on a go6800 ultra. It's a quite old game now, the 6800 ultra is no worse than my go7600, and I run it on high details at 1440x900, maybe you have to lower some settings to play on 1920x1200, maybe the 6800ultra scales better to higher resolutions, thanks to the 256bit bus
Will this laptop play AOE 3 on high quick answer...
