I plan on buying a system with the following specs
Core duo, 1,60 ghz
1536 mb ram
gma 950
I know i can't play any recent games and i can play on high settings, i would just like to know how far i can go. I was thinking about the following games
call of duty
call of duty 2
rome total war
NFS: underground 2
fifa 2005(or any other fifa way back to 1999)
please help me, cause i have no idea.

I think you can play old game like Fifa but not new game. My friend have GMA 950 and he can barely play C&C General.
I think you can play CoD too but not CoD2.
I havent test much with GMA.
Hope this help -
I'd be suprised if you could play call of duty 2 at all, and you'd have trouble with rome total war, and NFS. If you want to play games ona laptopt its a much better idea to save up some extra cash and buy a notebook with a seperate GPU. Even the x1300/go7300 will be able to play the afore mentioned games much better than the 950
-
i know a x1300 will be much better, the problem is i have a budget and i like the thinkpad t60, but a t60 with a dedicated videocard is just way to expensive, i could also opt for a r60 with x1400, but it is more expensive, only has one year warranty and is quite a lot heavier.
so i hoped the gma could play at least some games. I don't need high resolution or so, i could simply play call of duty 2 in a window on 640*480, but i'm guessing even this is not possible? -
There are lots of other manufactures that make budjet laptops with low end seperate graphics cards - take a look at the acer 5672, or the asus a6j/a8j series (asus coems with 2 year warranty). Or toshiba do the sattelite pro a100.... the list goes on.
The thinkpad is notoriously expensive.
it would be highly unlikely that you could play call of duty 2 on a 950m. Id be very suprised if you could.

I don't think the extra RAM is going to help. The GMA950 is the biggest stumbling block and I'm gonna agree with the previous posts - it's unlikely you'll be able to get most of those games running at decent framerates, if at all.
-
can the ATI 256MB x1400 Hypermemory play the games he mentioned with ease?
-
I agree with the other posts, you could probably run them, but could you really enjoy them? I doubt it with Call of Duty 2, games that really need a good GPU
-
ok, thx for the quick reply.
would fifa 2003/2004 be a problem? just to test the limit
-
I think you can play FIFA 2003 and 2004 ok. As I said my friend could play C&C General which is newer than those 2 games.
You should fill the FAQs so people can also help you find a good laptop that can play those game at a good price (mine is A8jm)
To n00b: X1400 with hypermemory but how much is its delicated RAM, but you should be able to play CoD, NFS: UG2, Rome Total War, FIFA 2005 I dont know about CoD2 but i think you can at low-medium setting, also depend on resolution. -
i know about the faq, but the fact is i'm already pretty down to a few choices and i quess i'm going for the t60 with the gma, i don't need to play all te resent games at high settings i just want to be able to play some games, there are still a lot of great games out there. My current notebook has a mobility radeon 9000 with 32 mb dedicated memory, the gma 950 will be a step up, right?
Also just being curious i know you need a dedicated gpu for doing video editing, etc. what happens if i use a gma 950, will it crash? or will it just go very slow? -
Call of Duty 2 is a big no no, I doubt NFSU2 will run either. The rest of those games should be fine, especially the older ones. I myself don't use the GMA but my friend uses it, in fact he uses the older GMA900 which predates the 950. He can run:
Call of Duty
Pariah
Command and Conquer Generals
Quake III
He can run all those games pretty well with decent framerates. I wish I could tell you more, but that's all he has installed at the moment...
to answer n00b's question would work fine on an x1400. -

Hard to say. Perhaps in some games, but on older games, the MR9000 will be faster. Your MR9000's limitation is the amount of memory it has. If it had 64MB dedicated, the GMA950 would fall behind. Most games require 64MB DDR.
Will this setup play these games?
