Just curious if underclocking the GPU would make it any cooler? I know the processor can be undervolted, but from my understanding the GPU can not be undervolted?

Underclocking the GPU will make the performance lower than the original clocks, but on the other hand, it will Make the the GPU Cooler by a big margine.

btw if you using nvidia drivers they already do this (unless you disabled the powermizer feature).

you can check it by running gpuz (sensor tab), run some game in a window, shut the game down and watch as the gpu slowly clocks down.

in theory, if you lower the clock, then the GPU should surely run cooler. Ive never tried it though.

My GPU was running at 95C last time I was playing COD4 and I wanted to slightly downclock it to make it cooler even if it means lower performance. What would be the best program to use to downclock and is it possible to damage the GPU when downclocking?

well, i think what u need to do is elevate ur laptop and cool ur surroundings. also , try a cooling pad as well as arctic silver 5 . also, underclocking might not be good idea as it may actually make ur laptop slower as the cpu to gpu power ratio is good right now for ur config.

or u could ask if these temps are even normal. it shouldn't be getting that hot. esp. since u have big battery that elevates the laptop.

these temps are definitely 2 high, make sure you don't block the air intakes and that your laptop isn't covered with dust (i reckon its 2 new 4 that), try find other users of same notebook and consider if it is normal or some problem with your notebook.

My battery actually does not elevate the laptop, and the temp is just above what other people with DV5T were getting. They were topping out at about 91C which for the DV5T is supposed to be an okay temp. I posted my temps in the DV5T forum and people seemed to think they were not too bad, but I just want to make it as cool as possible. Thanks for the help.

well, the dv5t is a good performer but it does tend to run a little too hot. well that was a understatement, frying eggs would be better. the thing runs hot. ur not alone. get a fan controller software and ramp up the fan to run faster whne playing games.

well, i would rly suggest elevating the exhausts and getting a cooling pad like the nc2000 from zalman. get it from newegg.com. either way get some sort of fan controlling software and try to ramp up the RPM speed so it cools better. hp should rly send out a fix for this.

I'll probly get a cooling pad, but what is the difference between the nc1000 and nc 2000? Also what is a good program to use for fan speen control?

i think the nc2000 is bigger in size (>15 inch notebooks). i have the nc1000 and it fits perfectly with my 14,1" laptop.

yep nc1000 is directed to up to 15.4" while the nc2000 is a 17" cooler beside that they are the same (nc2000 priced higher).
