I'm planning on getting a new low-mid power laptop and I need to know if video games will effect the overall performance and usage. I won't be playing anything that is really new, just some old games that I have in my collection (the newest of which is LOTR BFME 2). Basically I just need to know if it will crash more, go slower, or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated.![]()

As long as the temps don't go very high,it won't.

No it wont but it will shorten your laptops lifespan a bit more.

Not permanently, just when I'm playing the games right?
I know its an obvious question, I'm just making sure. -
What games WILL do is increase the overall temperature of your system more so than other programs, of course this only occurs WHILE THE GAME IS RUNNING. This is perfectly fine as long as you don't let your system vents get clogged with dust. Clean out dust every 6 months to 1 year with a can of compressed air available at office supply stores.
The only problem that could occur is if your system is shoved full of dust and cannot vent the hot air properly (which is the purpose of vents and fans inside your laptop).
If you overclock (and you don't), then you can shorten the lifetime of components because you are running them harder than they are rated to go.
Otherwise, if you play games ALL of the time, you might SLIGHTLY shorten the lifetime of your laptop. So instead of having your new laptop work for 20 years, it might instead work for 19 years. In other words, the impact is small and largely irrelevant.
Never be afraid to game! Games make us human and everyone should play them as often as possible. -
All right cool. thanks guys

Fine. Games make us alive.

why is this such a common question?... its designed to play games! just make sure the fans get plenty of air and your good...

because games are epic...........and epic stuff ruins non epic stuff. everyone knows that. so if you are non epic, don't play epic games.

To answer the original question on this thread: No, games don't hurt you system any more than playing music, or surfing the internet. As long as keep your vents clean you'll be fine.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015
