    Hi,
I am considering buying a dell laptop with,
    2 GB RAM,
    Windows XP Professional ,
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and
    Intel Integrated Graphics card .

Is the above configuration fine? Some people are advising me to buy
discrete graphics card from nvidea. I feel the above config would be fine as long as i stay with XP and not upgrade to Vista at all. I also feel discrete doesn't add up to the value when using with XP Pro and 2 GB RAM. I would sure like to know your opinion on this.

it doesnt really matter unless you're going to be doing heavy gaming.
XP will fly with 2gb of RAM and pretty much ANY C2D

It's fine as long as you don't intend to play games or run GPU intensive tasks.

mind you, DX10 isnt xp compatible.
as a rule of thumb, anything released before the release of your graphics card will work well. this usually applies to discrete graphics, but integrated might be different

    Thanks for your replies.

I have one concern. If i go with nvidea graphics card 128MB instead of intel integrated graphics with the above configuration will there be any negative impact on the laptop. What i want to know is, will it
be compatible with XP and also will there be any performance degrade. If not, i feel then it might help me if i decide to go with some gaming or plan to upgrade to Vista premium later.

There should be none. Nvidia is really good. Ever since I can remember I have been using Nvidia on a desktop. As far as a laptop goes, I too am trying to decide between the 6100/6150, 7150, X1100/X1150, and the Intel X3100.
