Laptop specs in sig. I have to decide if i should upgrade this to win 7 or downgrade it to win xp. I ll be playing MW2 and source games. Right now i can play MW2 at default settings on 640x480 :D at least i can play it
So which OS will give me better performance. And if this matters, the WIN XP that i ll be using is korean version.
Also this is kind of off topic but will i be able to use the cd key for korean win XP on WIN XP (U.S. version)?

hmmm. windows xp will most likely be the answer here i would have thought, as it uses less memory and has no aero etc.
shall have to wait to see if others agree

For a lower end system like that, just stick with XP. The cd key should work with any language.

Even though I love Windows 7, like everyone said, Windows XP would be the right choice.

And what do you mean using the Korean CD of Windows XP on the U.S Windows XP?

I think he means to try and use a Korean product key on a US disc.

And if you have 3GB of RAM or so, there shouldn't be too much difference between the in terms of gaming performance. Windows 7 and Vista disable transparency when a full screen DX app is open, so that takes down the amount of resources used.

Windows XP will edge out. I would personally shoot for Windows 7 though, it is a lot nicer to use, and the interface and features alone would make me prefer it over XP, for me anyway.

for gaming, not much difference. vista is fine since sp1.
xp will feel snappier though, so will windows 98, or 95.

Well my windows xp cd decided not to work so i just used my other windows 7 upgrade cd to download a free trial. And soon i ll probably get a key for it and activate it. Does anyone know im getting a really low score for my cpu performance? Im getting a 3.2 for my intel C2D t8100 2.1Ghz. Is that normal? Im also getting 5.4 gaming graphics score for my mobility hd 3450. Isn't that a little bit too high?

Installed your chipset drivers? And 5.4 sounds about right. A GMA X3100 gets around about 3.5. And my 3650 gets a 6.1 stock clocked.

That 3.2 doesn't sound right though.

really? maybe the sudden performance drop b4 was because of OS. Maybe this hellped. Im going to try some games now. I used to get 4.0 or something with 3450 on vista. And idk whats witht the processor score but as long as it performs well, im happy with it :D

Windows XP memory management isn't as good as Windows 7. I'd use Windows 7 and just turn your appearance to for best performance.

Each XP CD has own product key. So you must have the right one for the right CD. Unless it is a demo from Microsoft.

benchmarks above. and you can see that XP is SLOWER on average than vista and 7.
if your rocking a pentium M, then install xp and call it a day. but a penryn core 2 duo is not low end.
