    Hi,

My roommates and I thought it'd be great to reinstall SimCity 2000 and have some city competitions. The only problem we ran into was that SC2k doesn't run on my Windows 64-bit computer. Likewise, to test this out, I reinstalled Duke Nukem 3D and I received this message:

The image file C:\... is valid, but is for a machine type other than this machine.

Is there any way of getting around this? If I were to purchase Vista (which I can get Home Premium through the school for $70) would that help or hinder this problem?

    Thanks,

    Dan

I second that, I use that to let me play Space Quest series and SFA along with other older Windows/Dos games. Just get a Windows 98SE install on there and you're set :)

    DosBox should do the trick.

I attempted to use Virtual PC, but that requires an OS. The problem is that I don't have the OS I'm trying to use. Basically, I'm looking for emulator. Something that emulate 32-bit well enough for me to use older games and such. Does Vista 64-bit have this same problem?

And DOSBox, I have no idea how to get SimCity 2000 to work on that (it's the Windows version).

    Thanks again.

Vista is not going to solve your problem if that's what you mean. Vista has even worse backwards compatibility than XP, so chances are even less of your 'older' games will work.

Have you tried compatibility mode? Right click on your game's .exe file and go to Properties>Compatibility and select Win 95 or something from the drop down list.

Yep, that didn't do anything. Oh well.
