I was looking around and having a hard time figuring out if Steam games really have a major problem running on Windows 8. I play TF2, DOTA2, CS:GO, LOL.

Can anyone comment on their gameplay in Windows 8?

If there is a thread somewhere I couldn't, could someone redirect me there.

    Thanks!

Don't see why there would be an issue, Mass Effect 3, SWTOR, and some other games work great for me, so as long as you make sure you have the correct drivers you should be fine. hope this helps :)

can someone PLEASE explain to me why people are making such a big deal about Steam and the Windows App store? I'm talking about the proposed Steam migration to Linux.

    EDIT:

Yes, I'm well aware of the lack of issues with Win8 desktop...thats exactly why I'm so confused about people whining all of a sudden (mind you, this was a couple of weeks ago)

I think it's more that people are concerned about what will happen with Windows RT, which is a version of Windows 8 that only comes with their Metro/Modern UI. There's still the other versions of Windows 8 that has RT and the normal desktop UI that's familiar to us. Windows RT though is the closed garden OS where developers have to go through Microsoft to get certification to sell their stuff on the Windows app store. I haven't really investigated it, but I believe that if you want to use the functionality of the Metro/Modern UI and everything associated with it, a dev's app will have to come from Microsoft's app store; one part of that certification is that an app can't download an executable.

What seems to be the concern then, is what if future consumer PCs only come with Windows RT? I know us gamers and some others will actively choose a version of Windows 8 that allows us to play our library of games, but aren't we just a minority in the overall population of consumers with PCs? Windows RT could very well become the standard OS sold on most future PCs. That could end up forcing Valve and other developers to cave in to Microsoft's policies, although Valve is looking into Linux instead. For gamers, it might just mean that it gets a little more expensive in order to get the Windows version we need to play our games. Personally, I'm not making a big deal out of it yet, but it's a valid concern for the future.
