I just read an article with some gaming benchmarks for Windows 8 Developer Preview Build vs. Windows 7 Home Premium, and the results are difficult to interpret.

Metro2033 performed exactly the same in Win7 and Win8. Far Cry 2 performed almost three times better with Win7, and Crysis performance was about 20% better with Win8.

Perhaps this is related to driver issues for the Win8 preview build, but I would like to know whether in general, most recent DX11 and DX9 games will run better with Win8 or not. Are there some more accurate gaming benchmarks with the release build of Win8?

There are meant to be a lot of optimisations in Windows 8, mainly to lower the system resources it uses and how it handles multicore CPUs. In Theory this means Windows 8 should perform better, in practise I doubt you'll see anything change.

Windows 7 upgrade disks allowed users to do a full clean installation if they chose to do so, so I wager there is going to be a clean installation option through windows 8 upgrade offer as well.

There have been several mods and tweaks to make Windows 8 looks exactly as Windows 7.

We'll see more of it in the future, but as it stands now... W8 isn't even worth mentioning

If Win 8 includes "classic" Win 7 style desktop and start menu, I'll go for it. I have TechNet, but even free I wouldn't touch it as it stands.
