    A nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

update popped up as optional in my windows updates. I tried to install it but it failed to do so.

Has anyone else had this pop up in their windows updates?

I wouldn't use the Windows Update driver for the 8600m GT unless you have a really old driver version. Bet to use lv2g or official nVidia drivers.

That's somewhat unusual to happen with a mobile GPU, but it probably means your current driver is very old.
Sometimes though, Windows update will suggest an optional update that is much older than your current driver, if your current driver isn't WHQL certified.

I had it since July but I didn't use it. I have a toshiba x205 sli1. and I posted awhile back if anyone tried it. I still have it as an optional on my windows update but right now I don't think I want to risk my setup I'm running the laptopvideo2go forceware 175.19, and right now it taps the most potential out of my dual 8600m gts. I want to try it just because last time I didn't install an optional update and let it sit for awhile I didn't receive the service pack 1 for vista until I used the optional update. So I'm thinking if I don't install it I won't be recieving important updates in the future.

As for urok try using the search on this forum and put video drivers for 8400m gt. Hopefully you'll come up with a bunch of results that'll link you to laptopvideo2go. If not try googling it. hope that helps

Yeah I would steer clear of the MS nvidia driver if I were you. Granted it works, but it killed my cards performance by alot. Personally 177.89 have been working great so far.

That driver is extremely old, don't get unless your computer came with antiquated drivers...
