    Been thinking about going back to XP. Will games be just as fast on XP as they are on Windows 7?

    You will lose DX10 (not to mention DX11) support? When I bench games the DX10 actually runs better. Other than that I can't comment I am not a big gamer.

    Having been forced to use DX9 for Aliens VS Predator 3 and Metro 2033 for awhile after release, I have to say no. On a few games I have found DX9 is running really bad for me. New hardware just runs better on Windows 7.

    They will be as fast. But like the above post says you'll lose DX10 and DX11... and if it is the laptop in you signature you have the (still) strongest mobile card in the market. For me personally it is not a good idea. Also, have you tried using the XP emulator in Windows 7 profesional (I think thats the only version with the emulator...).

    That is like Virtual Machine it won't run 3D games. I believe it was designed to help business transition legacy software. Both Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate have it.

    After playing BC2 in DX11 on windows 7, and then trying it on XP in dx9, I have to say it looks awful in dx9 on XP.
    I consider it an insult to my eyes.

    @KipCoo
    I see you have the same laptop as me, FWIW it wasn't easy finding drivers for the 5870 for XP, and I still haven't got CCC working.

    I don't like to ask this kind of questions, but in this case I also wonder this...
    Why ?

    Not sure, thought it might be faster in games perhaps...wouldn't you say XP is less resource hungry too?

    I think its time people got over the whole windows xp is better stuff. Its been nearly 10 years and win7 really is just as good and alot more modern. Most if not all games are designed to run on win7 nowadays anyways. Same with drivers. Which is gonna be a pain to run on xp.

    Yeah stick with windows 7. Its more optimized for performance even if it uses more memory and seems a little sluggish

    The one drawback is mouse acceleration. I've never found a way to get my mouse feeling the same way it did in XP; Windows 7 just feels sluggish as if the pointer is trailing by a few microseconds in every game I play.

    I doubt there's really a difference when using a mouse. Maybe it's your polling rate? Or wireless/bluetooth? Every mouse I've used so far (a logitech, a craptastic generic mouse, and a DeathAdder) feels perfectly fine.
