Well I have vista sp1 and I hear people saying that vista takes a lot of performance. So what is the best for playing games and faster computer? Also games for vista only can be played in windows 7 rc?

Windows 7 is built with same groundwork as Vista...so either way, your performance in regards to gaming isn't going to change much at all.

Vista SP1. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't.

Just from a ton of experience with both. You will NOT go wrong with Windows 7. The all around performance of your machine will be better.

It depends on what type of games you will be playing and your system setup. I have 3GB of RAM and I play a lot of old games that work better on XP than Vista so I am on XP SP3 at the moment.

If you have more than 3GB of RAM then Vista 64 might be better providing you won't be playing many really old games that may never work on Vista.

My gaming performance on XP SP3 has been excellent with no problems at all on my NP8662.

I might upgrade to Windows 7 at some point along with extra RAM though.

well now I playing COD 5 with my overclocked gpu and DOX driver. graphics are in the high except for 1 or 2 things in med. the game have little lags when a lot of enemy appears (I know when the enemy will going to appear because the lag!) but still playable. If I going with windows7 this problem can be more reduced or dissapear?

windows 7 should reduce the lag as it takes less resources.

It won't go away completely, if you get any benefits at all it'll be very very small I think.

Vista SP1 is on par with XP performance now, I've run tests myself even. Oblivion actually runs a little faster is I remember correctly under x64.

The bad word of mouth now if just people repeating what was true a couple years ago.

That being said, there are few reasons to upgrade to Vista from XP if you're happy with it.

P.S. If you have lag issues on desktop, turn off aero. I know it's cool, but it's a huge resource hog.

That is a current generation game, it's probably lagging because it's too much for your rig at times. Sounds to me like a slow harddrive, nothing to really worry about.

Well, as soon as I get around to it I plan on wiping Vista off my gaming desktop and replace it with Windows 7 64-bit. I plan on installing all new games on Win7 with 2008 and earlier games left on XP. We'll see how it goes!

im tempted to move to windows 7 too seeing as how its RC1 right now... directx 10 does look alot better than dx9

ive also heard elsewhere though that vista sp1 gives gaming performance equivalent to xp but windows 7 gives slightly lower performance than vista sp1... forgot where i heard it unfortunately.

My friend recently moved his gaming rig over to Windows 7 and while most games run fine he said he runs into problems here and there and if he had time he would do a format and go back to vista. I would wait until Windows 7 is officially out before using it as a primary gaming rig as its not fully supported at the moment.

Always get the latest service pack for any windows operating system i will always be better than the previous.

Also turning off Aero won't do a thing for gaming as when you play a game Vista turns it off for you; keep it on unless its affecting your performance out of games.
