    Hey guys,

Just a heads up, Wings of Prey, a new flight sim/dogfighting game is now available. Its based on the fantastic Birds of Prey that was released for consoles not long ago, which has its roots in IL2. Absolutely loved it on the 360, and it's now available for PC's, and is currently on sale at Steam for 10% off. Definitely check it out, it's very customizable from arcade/action to legit simulation.

Just played the first 3 tutorials. The graphics are amazing! However at this moment, I still think that IL2 maintains more realism than Wings of Prey.
Things like, German chatter can be heard with the British chatter together whereas in IL2 you have to tune in to the German frequency to see what they are up to, there's targetting reticules in external mode but maybe there's a diffculty button somewhere...WoP doesn't let you choose armaments at every mission, and in the menu there's no indication of a map editor (which I loved in IL2). I think it plays abit like Heroes over Europe, sorta faster paced.

BUT maybe I'm just picky :)

Looks nice! May have to grab that one once the price drops. Reminds me I need to fire up IL2 once again. Still waiting for Storm of War: Battle of Britain by Oleg Maddox, same guy that did IL2.

Yeah, he supposedly had a minor hand in this one, as it uses the basic IL2 game engine... And I agree, can't wait for BoB, but this'll do till then.

LOL, same here. Those sub $10 games that Steam had just makes $40 look so darn expensive.

well, haven't had time to really try it, but a quick 5 minute run before I have to head out went great... framerates at high settings and native res were 60-90+, buttery smooth, and gorgeous... buzzing the tree tops was awesome, definitely come a long way from IL2 graphically. Will have some time with it tomorrow...

Finally had some time to spend with it, and gotta say, it's actually really good. My "real" sim joystick/throttle/rudder pedals are in storage from a recent move, so dabbled in the sim settings range, but have gone back to arcade, as the 360 controller is really well implemented. And honestly, even that's a hoot, great action, gorgeous graphics, and a suprisingly well optimized game engine. Runs at 60+fps with no stutters or issues on my G51, I've been impressed. Hard to believe a small developer with limited resources did so well compared to some other games that I still can't get running as well that don't look near as nice.

So far so good, the only real issue that I've seen people are having with the game is that it does have third party DRM, which sucks, especially because it's such a well made game that so many people will skip it for just that reason alone. I don't like it, but it's nowhere near a big enough reason to not play the game in my opinion, but I know everybody has their own thoughts on this. The developer is active in the forums though and claims there will never be any issues for those that purchased the game, but still a bad move in my opinion and obviously many others.

Haven't tried multiplayer yet, but so far the tutorial/training and early campaign missions are fun. Will report more later.

Definitely a step up though from Blazing Angels etc, and a great evolution graphically from IL2, and the sim mode does seem fairly involved, but really isn't 360 Gamepad practical and I don't want to say too much about it without the proper controllers... need to dig them out of boxes!

One quibble I do have is I haven't found how to select realism on a per item basis, ie damage modeling, flight modeling, visual aids etc. From what I can tell its the three basic modes of ARCADE, REALISTIC, and SIMULATION, which step up quite a bit from each other. There very well may be a way to select a middle groud between settings, but I haven't found it yet. Very possible in a config file somewhere, but haven't had time to investigate.

Thanks for that update. Guess I'll have to add it to my list of games to buy! :)
