I bought the Witcher last nite and installed it on my comp using easy installation. So far the game seems to run well at 1280x800 and its combat is fun but I have a couple of problems I wanted to seek advice about. First off I installed it using the easy install but once it was finished for some reason its not under start menu programs. Although this isn't really a problem it is annoying. Also this game is the most unstable game I've ever bought. I have played for less than 2 hrs and it has already crashed 5-6 times, this is after installing the newest patch. Is there anything I can do to make it more stable and is the amount of crashing normal? I haven't been able to apply my talents yet because it has crashed everytime I tried to open the menu. I dont have the newest drivers but they aren't too old (165. something).

Try applying the new patch.

Patch Vista, graphics drivers should be updated either to latest manufacturer or WHQL certified versions. I had to reinstall directX on my PC to get the Demo to work so downloading it off Microsoft's website may be necessary as well.

Vista is completely up to date (including that virtual page filing issue), I patched the game and it says it is up to date, and I checked and I have 169.04 driver. Is there anything else I can do because since my last post it crashed 2 more times and I played for less than 30 mins this time and I'm about to try and return it because its unplayable.

Since you mention that no entry showed up in the Start menu, I don't think the install completed successfully.
One thing to try is run Witcher in windowed mode and keep RMClock (or something similar) running simultaneously. It'll give you an idea if the computer is overheating. I did the same thing and ended up throttling to 87.5%. The game runs fine now and I haven't had any problems since.
Also, what software do you have running in the background? Hopefully, all anti-virus/spyware is off, as well as all any other CPU-intensive tasks.

Try a DirectX reinstall, I couldn't get the demo to run until I did that. Didn't have any problems after that. Make sure the HDD is defragged as well as I suspect the game doesn't like jumping through HDD sectors for data.
