I have been seeing over the net ppl with slow processors on their notebooks like mine ([email protected]), saying the witcher won't run well and will be full of lag. I just started this thread to say the witcher is completely playable with my processor with almost no lag (every once in a great while). I had a hell of a time making this game more playable. I overclocked my graphic processor and still experienced bad lag, my clocks of my 7900gs are 650/1100. Next I tried installing all updates, the problem still persisted. I went to tweakguides.com and tweaked the witcher's ini file, it helped, but not enough to my liking. So what did I do next? I had 1 gb of ram. I installed 2 x 2gb sticks of ram (windows xp 32bit only recognizes 3.2gb of ram, but wanted to keep it dual channel). Then I went back to the .ini file I had adjusted using tweakguides.com to tell the program "the witcher" how much (usable 3.2gb) ram I had installed. Last but not least I updated my drivers using hacked ones tweaked for performance from laptopvideo2go.com. Ram makes a huge difference in this game, moreso than I would have thought possible but make sure you change your .ini file. I run the game at full settings now (minus Antialising cuz the geforce 7 series cant turn HDR and AA on at once). My Resolution is native 1900x1200, its extremly playable and almost as smooth as butter!
EDIT: I run a minimized version of xp to cut down on processes using the great freeware program nlite. (vlite is for vista) Use DH TuneXp to tweak XP for performance and speedxp for again cutting down on processes. (Both again freeware) I also disable any unnessacary programs (like itunes) that run at startup.
Load times are also greatly reduced. Ram seems to matter ALOT in this game, just wrote this cuz so many others have had trouble with getting this to run well.

I'm not surprised given the minimum processor requirement for the game is a plain P4 2.4Ghz which even the weakest of dual-core processors can match in performance.
The game is still based around the GPU and your 7900GS would kick my DDR2 8600GT any day. 3 GB of RAM is definitely helpful even on XP thanks to the 2GB buffer the game regularly hits.
I'm sure you will eventually realise (if you haven't already done so) is that the weak processor gets punished in 1 chapter of the entire game and that's where the majority of complaints arise regarding the weak processor. If you have no idea what I'm talking about or think I'm spouting nonsense search "Trade Quarter" on the official forums for more information.
