I downloaded Google Earth (yes thats random), opened it, and my screen artifacted, and crashed. I had to manually reboot.

    I have a
    Dell Inspiron 1520
    8600m GT

I think it might be the driver I'm using. It's the beta 185.20. Thing is I've been using it for about a month now, and this the first time that happened (outside of a game).

I think I might just go back to the Dell Drivers just to be safe. Any suggestions, maybe a 1520 compatible driver?

Have you monitored your temps to see if your laptop is overheating?

    Try using HWMonitor.

I think it may not be a overheating issue though it is common with 8600m gt. I think its the driver as overheating connot happen the instant u turn something on. try a different driver and see, though checking your temps cant hurt

You may have one of the defective 8000 series cards. I would keep your eyes on the temperatures and check your warranty. You definitely can't go wrong with switching to a stabler driver as well.
