alright, here are my initial impressions. the game engine is weak, it looks fine, but i think even half life 2 looks better, it also doesnt like my system as i have to throw it all on low. the character models are aweful, minus the main guy, even on the cutscenes. also they made much of the game overly complicated expecially the floors, whereever there is a rug you can visibly see yourself pop about an inch up, which is odd and doesnt help the game at all, it just makes it harder to render with your camera popping up and down.

the combat however, is overall fun so far, im tweaking to make it lag less but its fairly intuitive controls. it (at least for the first level) is extremely easy, even on hard i have had no trouble so far.

also settings wise there is very little difference between low and high, the textures look the same all that you miss are the shadows.

    ^^ Sucker (j/k)

It's built on the same engine as Quake IV so ya... old tech that has been retooled. I think you'll find it gets a bit harder as you go along, at least that's what IGN made me think. That's weird about the floors?

I wonder what the big sale will be on Steam etc... this week? You should have saved your money and went for something like Republic Commando ($10) It is likely as good a game as this.

game is not bad..gameplay is very good but the farm level (look for trees and all the plants) just showed me how outdated the game looks these days.

but then again u get into a tunnel and its looks good again and the explosions and all teh action on the screen looks good n fine.

just somthing doesnt feel right about this game...i bought the first RTCW but im not buying this one.

ACK! Wolfenstein WILL NOT INSTALL! Gets about 2/3 done and then errors out. Not sure if its a bad DVD, drive, or what. This is pissing me off.

After two failed attempts, trying off external USB drive... This ALWAYS happens to me. I get a chance to play and something screws up.

I was never going to pay full price for Wolfenstein anyway, but I'll put it on my list as a low priority to continue the series. I never finished RTCW because in 2002, my computer froze on some mission in the middle of the game with elite guards and I never played it again. Perhaps I should get around to finishing that game one of these days.

runs really well maxed out on my m17 and hp firebird my m15x ran it on high and it played pretty well to (this with an 8700mgt) almost as well as on the other systems. Is it worth 50 maybe not thats what I paid and I don't mind because I want to make sure I get rage and another doom :) and hell 50 isn't all bad.

From what I seen - the game does look outdated, but then again so does Fallout 1 & 2 witch gave me 100 times more joy than today's crap RPG's with good-great graphics.....also I would get much more pleasure from playing RTCW from 2001 today, than say an FPS game from 2006-2007...and even Crysis ( witch is boring ), because game feels like adventure seen by eyes of B.J ( terrible initials for a straight guy ) rather than "go forward and kill all the bad guys on the way" ( even if RTCW was like that itself, there is just some kind of magic in this series )

Can't wait to get the new Wolfenstein :)

but yeah, it is a very fun game, just runs poorly for its graphics, this is another example of a game that makes me realize just how well crysis is coded.

Let's give the game time for a few patches or a tweak guide of some sort
Then again it's strange that it runs average on your lappy, other players seem to give this game a + for how well it runs

Ok, well either my DVD drive is going bad or there some copy protection my DVD drive doesn't like because it installed fine off a USB DVD drive. This is NOT a good start for Wolfenstein. Can't even run it off main DVD drive even after installing from USB drive.

I think game wasn't intended as multiplayer hit, It was planned as good singleplayer experience right from the beginning by the developers.

The only reason people hoped for good multiplayer in Wolfenstein is that ET turned out to be a hit ( by mistake ! lol )

Hmmm...over-the-top story incorporating sci-fi and occult elements which results in cool, unrealistic weapons making for more creative ways to kill in-game Nazis and really wierd monster bosses (and there's still the heavily-S&M oriented Nazis carrying over from RtCW)...and the 'veil' (alternate dimension) is new to this Wolfenstein (RtCW didn't have it)...

I love bad sci-fi (MST3K fan) and now it's incorporated into a WW2 FPS...no historically themed shooter here...WW2 is just a loose background...

So, I don't get emotionally drawn in like I might in Brothers in Arms, but I get to play through, what I think, is a cool, kitsch-y story...

Securom does provide the copy protection...if you remove the disc and try to launch the program, you'll get the Securom warning...

But Securom is preventing you from installing? That's unusual in my experience...and I'm running a virtual optical drive (D :) with my physical optical drive assigned to E:...

And I guess I'm not supposed to say a whole lot, but yes, I can already run my store bought copy without the disc in the E: drive...I hate wearing down my optical drive or having to tote media with me (particularly when the install chewed up all the necessary HDD space anyway...back in the days of 540 MB HDDs, I could understand keeping the bulk of the game on the optical media vs the HDD...but cd checks for the sake of copy protection irritate me...)

After installing from external DVD drive, I found a (*cough*) workaround so that it runs fine. Maybe my DVD drive is going bad, who knows. Just odd that it hasn't failed me yet, but won't install this one game, but the external DVD drive does. Oh well, as long as it works.

This is strange, because my laptop in sig plays this game maxed out in native resolution very well, the only acceptable slowdowns are when lots of shadows occur, but FPS hardly drops below 25 ever
You should be able to play this game nicely with shadows off on HD 2600 GDDR3

If this is anything like turning point fall of liberty? If it is I would stay away with possibly a restraining order in place. If not I hope its like enemy territory. That was epic (and free). Ign review was total BS , they were just comparing it to world at war so they said it was not good. Yes the COD multiplayer format is very good, but we can not abandon all the classic FPS series.

The game is very good ( singleplayer ), but paying 60 $ or 50 $ for it is a little bit of dilema....

The game does have some of that RTCW climate and it does feel as if like Agent Blazkowicz done the plot from RTCW not long ago, when you play Wolfenstein :)

Didn't IGN give it a 7? That's not exactly abysmal. My problem with this game is the pricetag. I love a good SP FPS, but this has been so done to death this game should be $40 absolute max. For $60 CDN the MP in this game should rival CoD 4/5. But it just seems like another tacked on MP to a SP game.

The game is a lot of fun gotta say, but anyone else agree that the default controls were poorly chosen? Meh, it feels like a lot of the menu options (and like the objectives and map tabs) were dumbed down just to make it easy to port to console? That makes me angry :( I feel like I get a lower quality game when they do things like that. Other than that though the variety of terain is AWESOME, rarely do I see a game in which I'm impressed at the enviroment but they did a great job at creating an interesting variety of changing enviroments.

Well it's nice to see reviewers being honest with this title despite all the hype and clout of those that brought it to the marketplace.

I'm enjoying this one. I disagree with the Ars verdict. I say if you enjoyed the first Wolfenstein game, get this one.

The guns are great, the combat is fun, the Veil powers are neat and I enjoy rooting around for secrets.

The multiplayer is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. It could have it or not and it wouldn't change my opinion either way. I realize a lot of people are obsessed with multiplayer, but for me the interactive storyline is king, and Wolf has it in spades.

In fact, I'm going to go play it some more now.

Going from the first Wolfenstein game to this Wolfenstein game is like the difference between night and day! So for sure pick this one up. But I reckon you meant to say the second Wolfenstein game, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. ;)

RtCW was/is a terrific game. And really from what I'm seeing there's not much of a 'grab me' appeal for the new Wolfy until it ends up in the discount bin.
