Well I hear that Vista while shipping with DX10 of course, will have a new version of DX9 so DX10 cards can run DX9 applications. Well I've also heard that this new DX9 as well as Vista working with it, run games better than XP and DX9.0c currently do. Is this true? I really don't plan on moving to Vista until I think I need DX10 for games (which should be a long time from now), opting for a move to a Linux OS instead while keeping XP in dual boot for games. But is Vista going to run lets say FEAR with better framerate than I have FEAR running now, or is Vista just going to hog my RAM and system down ?![]()

General reports are that performance is downgraded by as much as 10-15%. That is probably due to immature drivers, but I'd say wait a few months (or a year) to see how things really pan out.

DX 9.0l is essentially DX9 for Vista which includes optimizations to get more out of DX9 games under Vista OS
That's from the MS presentation on DX under Vista. Few people I've spoken too seem to believe that you'll definitely see performance increases under Vista for DX9 games thanks to the managed memory resources. Though that's something that we won't be able to fully gauge until Vista is officially released. -

Well I already think MS can screw off with Vista (MS is evil
). While it's my only OS to do things with, I can see my future with MS is only using it just for my games.

i think we will have to wait it out for more developed drivers...and then its just up to people testing the OS themselves and then make up their own minds
i just think that vista seems to in general be more performance hungry than XP is so that causes a decrease in game performance...
sooner or later...time will tell....time will tell (evil laugh) anyways...Cerebral out
Wonderments about Vista's version of DX9.....
