World in Conflict vs. Company of Heroes

Which do you think is better?
Do they have the same game play mechanics?
    Are they that different?

If I like World in Conflict...Will I like Company of Heroes?

Does Company of Heroes have an alive online community?

    Thanks,

    Adam

    1. They are really quite different - I loved them both though, but I think COH has more replayability. especially with the expansion packs.

    2. Similar but not the same. WiC does not use an economy system, or a node caputuring system to gain "money" or resources. Where as COH does. Also there is no base building in WiC and there is in COH.

    3. They are RTS's so in a lot of ways they are similar, in a lot of ways they are not though. They are both story drivem single player and have real intense action.

    4. Most Likely. If you like RTS yes, if you like WW2 yes. COH is a GREAT GAME.

    5. Absolutley, though a little snobby, sometimes as a "noob" people look down on you. Still though good online community, you can always find games. Also XPACS are backward compat. so you can play against people that have the xpacs installed even if you don't have them, which makes the longevity of the game greater.

well they are both RTS but as far as im concerned that's where the similarities end.

World in Conflict is a unit based RTS where you support your team mates by choosing a specific fraction like air, infantry, armor etc and it revolves around capturing and holding strategic points to earn points allowing you to send for more units or special attacks, its got a good single player campaign but shines online with team matches.
heres a wiki explanation of the game

Company Of Heroes is more like a traditional RTS in that you build bases have command of a variety of units, but it also differs from the more traditional RS in that your have to capture resource points to up your production levels, its fast paced like WiC and you wont win by sitting back in your base spamming units... Ive got a short review of Company of Heroes in my sig..maybe check it out to get a taste for what its about.

they are both great games but differ a lot, id hate to choose one over the other but if i had to id take Company of heroes.

COH is also a unit based RTS....... - you pick Armor, Infantry or Airborne in multiplayer, much like in WiC picking Air, Armor, Infantry.

they both revolve around caputuring strategic points. In COH its for resources/fuel etc, in WIC is for a larger reinforcement cap afair.

its completely different though, although you can pick a command control specialty you still have a wide array of units from all the different aspects.
for example although i may choose armor as my command i still create infantry such as snipers and m-gunners and light vehicles such as AT, the command choice is a supplement to the other units where as in WiC its a lot more specialized and that was the distinction i was trying to put across.

NOTE i can see what your saying but when i think of something like CoH i like more along the lines of dawn of war, i just don't think CoH and WiC are all that similar, when you say they capture strategic points it does make it seem like they are alike but to me they are worlds apart in there game play.

No for sure they are very different you're right about that, but they do share similarties and someone who likes WiC would likely enjoy COH I think.

I only have CoH, never played WiC, but what I can say CoH is wierd game, because it's entertaining and frustrating at the same time, mostly because of clumsy tanks

I started playing WiC in the beta so I've been at it a while. Once I got bored I moved onto CoH. CoH is very different, but I still enjoy playing both of them. The Single player game in CoH is better in my opinion, but I prefer the multiplayer of WiC. I guess the only way to see if you like either is to try the demo's first.

I don't know about World in Conflict but Company of Heroes is a great game!
I haven't played it for so long, maybe a month or two and from my experience I can say that it's quite a complicated game. War games ain't my type of games but I do find Company of Heroes a good and an entertaining game.
So you will most likely also enjoy Company of Heroes if you like war games.

I have WiC and I have only played the demo of CoH. They are really different when you play them, although on the surface they are 'similar'. For me CoH was more complex than WiC... but maybe is that I only played the demo.
