I just purchased a Dell alienware with the ATI 5780 graphics card..

When I log into Warcraft to any of my characters that are in Dalaran I get disconnected from the server immediately, or if I hearth to Dal, Fly near Dal.

It is such a strange problem on tis new machine. I have updated all the drivers etc for this graphics card.

Bliz said it was a graphic issues and told me to lower my settings, which I did and nothing works. I even did the standard removal of /interfaces/cache.

I don't have this issue on any of my other older warcraft macines...

Does anyone know how to "tune" this card?

    Thanks in Advnance,

    Linda

    Which Alienware device?

If it is one of the notebooks (this is the notebook forum so may be a silly question), you could be in Stealth Mode (enabled by default usually if the laptop is not plugged in etc).

Can check that by making sure the video card that shows up in devices is the ATI 5780 (mobility in the laptop is 5870 which is why I was wondering what AW you were using).

Otherwise I'm not sure, never had any issues with WoW on my machine at all.

    Hi JaiaV,

I bought the M17xR2 with the Ati Mobility HD 5870 CrossFire, similar to yours, with 8gb ram, etc. Red Case, cuz red cases go faster ;-)

My device driver is showing ATI Mobility 5800 series x2

I always connect to a powersource, and I love the fact that you can change the colour of the alien head power button when yr not connected to mains.

I wish I could just download those 2 giantwow patches once to disk and apply them to all my machines.

When WOW runs on unix, I will be a very happy girl.

    Thanks,

    Linda

Strange issue. at the end of the day I copied my programfiles/worldofwarcraft from a working desktop machine and put it on my Alienware machine, no more issues. Set up graphics stuff and it looks absolutly stunning!

Strange. O well, glad you got it fixed.

You might want to add your specs into your sig if you have any more problems, helps people help you quicker.

Sounds like you had the 10.10/11 drivers installed? Had issues with those myself, just stuck with the Dell drivers as none of my games have any issues with those at all.

Truthfully, these machines are overkill for WoW, but that's why I have Metro 2033 and stuff for. WoW is for my raiding itch.
