When playing WoW, my temps get up too high for my likings. (Around 85c-89c) I thought this was a general heat issue, but when playing BF2, or EQ II, my temps stay around 68c-70c. I am running WoW maxed out, but would be fine reducing a particular setting if it would improve my heat problems. I went out and bought a 17" cooling pad, with 2 fans, that seem to be running pretty quick, but didn't get much luck. I do have VSync on, but it only lowered the temps about 1c. Anyone have any idea what setting I could possibly turn down to solve, or at least help this issue?

    Thanks guys.

Are you running in Windowed mode or anything? Some people like to run it that way, it could possibly decrease temps by going full screen. Alternatively, try it windowed if you are already full screen.

I'm surprised its running that hot. Any dust in the heatsink fins that you can see?

If there is any dust in there, I can't get it out. I mean, it's been cleaned regularly with compressed air, but I can't get inside to the actual heatsink. Tried disassembling the laptop again today, but got all the way to the speakers, and could get them out. (Sounds corny, but I'm just not comfortable taking these things apart.) I've tried compressed air a million times, but doesn't seem to be getting any better. I do run fullscreen... I'll try windowed mode.

Oh yeah, both fans turn on just fine. My CPU is keeping at a pretty good temp. My fault guys, I just realized I didn't specify what was heating up. It's my GPU, not the CPU. Sorry about that.

Different games stress video cards to different levels, it is quite normal that you get much higher temp say playing game A than game B. At what resolution do you run WOW? I know from my experience that my GPU runs much cooler while playing games at lower resolutions, when i turn off my laptop display(1366x768) and switch to my external 1080p monitor when playing games (most games run at 1680x1050 or 1920x1080), i notice a general 7-8 C increase in GPU temp.

And out of the two laptops in your signature, which one are we talking about?

I am talking about the 6860. My fans already come on at max speeds. I understand different games stress cards differently. (I.E. Crysis vs. EQII) What I'm running at my native 1440x900, but I guess I could try running it at 1280x800, though I really don't want to. Kinda kills the point of having a notebook like this if you have to lower settings for heat. I'm gonna try cleaning everything out again.

    Thanks guys.
