So, I just ordered an Acer 3003wlci. The gpu is an SiSM760GX chipset with integrated Mirage 2 graphics chip. Now, I know this isn't meant for gaming, but I'm going to upgrade the ram to 1gb. Will this run WoW with the settings low? Would going for 2gb of ram make any difference? From the specs for WoW, I actually think it would.
    WoW needs:
32MB 3D graphics card with hardware transform
and Lighting, GeForce 2 or better
4.0 GB free hard drive space

    Thanks for any help.

I don't think you are going to see a performance increase going to 2GB, 1GB should be fine for you.

WoW isn't that demanding of a game, so I think you'll be able to run it. Most likely at lower settings though.

Awsome, thanks for the help. More generally speaking then, I notice most games have the requirements of a 32mb direct x 9.0 video card. I believe I've heard using shared memory it can get as high as 128mb. Is this really a 128mb card then, or does shared memory work differently? I found specs for this gpu here http://www.sis.com/products/sism760gx_features.htm
    What does this spec mean?
    DirectX 8.1 H/W Compliant, DirectX 9.0 S/W Compliant
With an answer to how many mb the card is, and what version of directx it supports, I'm pretty sure I would be able to tell if the chip can run any particular game. Am I right in assuming thats the only info I need for the gpu specs?
Basically, I'm new to laptops. I know how to tell if my desktop specs will run anything, but just don't understand laptop gpu's.

Basically - that means the video card itself is DX8.1 in hardware, and it can use DX9.0 in software.

I wouldn't count on being able to run any new games with that GPU, it is quite terrible for gaming, never meant to do that.

Shared memory is a bottleneck - cuts your memory bandwidth and slows the whole computer. You should still be able to play the game you want alright, just don't expect anything spectacular.

Yes; the SiS chip can borrow up to 128MB of memory from your main system memory to use as video memory.

Good to know. I dont tend to run anything I consider too graphically intensive, and do know its a horrible gaming gpu. Basically, I'll be happy if the games run at a playable level. Thanks again for the info.
